Sleeping on side 10 days post hysterectomy

i am ten days out of abdominal hysterectomy and slept on my side some last night. I was so tired of laying on my back. Do you think I hurt anything? I am hurting today but could be gas pains.

Re: Sleeping on side

Nope, find a position that is comfy for you and go with it. Side, back or tummy sleeper - you won't hurt anything if that's where you are comfortable and it lets you get some rest.

Re: Sleeping on side

I found in the early days that side sleeping with the abdominal binder held things in place and I was more comfortable. Each night got better. Best wishes.

Re: Sleeping on side

You can also sleep on your side with body pillow-it helps alot and is comfortable.

Re: Sleeping on side

I slept on my side my first night after surgery. I was pretty woozy from the anesthetic, and I just curled up and went to sleep without thinking about it at all! After the first night I slept on my side with a pillow tucked against my belly for support. My staples came out on day 13, so after that I slept on my stomach.

I slept on my side the same day as my surgery. I put a pillow between my knees and another at the small of my back, which I leaned back slightly into. Much better than sleeping on my back!

Re: Sleeping on side 10 days post hysterectomy

I slept on my side soon after surgery. I think by 10 days I had already accidentally slept on my stomach and was fine.

I agree with the pillow comments. If I slept on my back one under my knees and if I slept on my side one between my knees and one supporting my tummy helped.

I was sleeping on my side and belly in the hospital. So I would think you will be fine. Now with that said I also slept on my belly right up until I had my daughter. Maybe I am broken. Lol

Re: Sleeping on side 10 days post hysterectomy

The night after surgery, which was in the hospital, I slept on my back. But my first night home, which was the second night, I slept on my side. I rolled onto my side gingerly, and like many here, I held a pillow against my tummy, and slept like a baby. I'm now 6 weeks post abdominal hyst and doing great. I went back to work this week and am feeling just fine. All of which is to say, you're probably fine too. In my opinion, anything you can do to make you sleep well is a big boost to your healing process.
