I'm torn also
Well, I am scheduled for a hysteroscopy with d&c on sept 23rd for suspected polyps and very very large endometrial lining, on cd17 I was at 18mm, I am now on cd 29-can you imagine the bleed I'm going to have? my endo biopsy was normal. I just have very heavy periods with orange sized clots and I've resorted to Depend as I soak a super pad and super tampon in 45 minutes for 4 days out of 6.
Anyhoo, the long and short of it is, if there are no polyps, she suggested either an ablation or hyst, and I just don't know what to do. I'm a single mom of a 6 year old, almost 42 and just want whatever is to be over and done with.
Frustrated and definitely had enough

Jean~
I am so sorry you are going though this. I hear you on the mess you body puts you through. I am a little younger than you, but very ready to stop this bleeding stuff.... I am not scared right now, but for the 3-4 months it took me to make my decision, I was scared. I also have large fibroid uterus and endo.
Take your time making the right decision for you. I hear the recovery is pretty easy today compared to 10-15 years ago!!
BEST OF LUCK!

I'm torn also
We had been discussing options in lieu of the hysterectomy. I was scheduled for a hystoscope, D&C, and ablation on 6-19-08. The dilation pills didn't dilate my cervis enough and ended up perforating my uterus. Instead of having irregular bleeding every other week, I ended up bleeding 28 out of the next 30 days. Re-scheduled to have the same procedure again 8-8-08. However, this time I took the dilation pills for 3 days and had her "pop" my cervix on 8-5 to make sure she could get in this time. Well, Friday came...woke up from surgery with no ablation again. All was fine, but when she got in there, my uterus was abnormally shaped and ablation couldn't be done AGAIN. I end up with another hole in my uterus on the other side. Doc came out and gave me an hour to make phone calls etc for TAH/BSO. Recovering slowly, but glad I did it! Whatever you decide, good luck with it...just have a "what if plan" since neither ablation attempt worked and she thought I was the perfect candidate for it. Make sure you have a support group to lean on for meals, carpooling, etc.

Jean--
Sorry to hear you are going through this. I just went through the D&C and hysteroscopy, which came back "normal"--although I have bleeding like you and I hardly consider that "normal".
I was also given the choice between hyst or ablation. Here is the thread where I asked about it:
Like you, I want to be done with this, but I will try ablation first because of lower risk and quicker recovery time.
I hope you get some answers after your tests.
