Cuff not healing-dr Rx'd Estrace for bleeding

Hi. I'm 8 weeks post op. I only kept my ovaries...everything else is gone. I posted a few days ago about bleeding and having cramps after having sex at 8 weeks. I went to the dr today, and he said my vaginal cuff isn't healing well. He put me on Estrace cream every other night, as he said this would help it heal faster. Have any of you heard of this/done this? Also, no sex for another 6 weeks until he checks me again. By the way...he said the issue wasn't dryness. Just an inflamed cuff.

Re: Cuff not healing-dr Rx'd Estrace for bleeding

I don't have anything to offer...I'm at 10 weeks and my stitch hasn't dissolved yet, but it doesn't affect me, just pokes hubby. hee hee.
So you are to use Estrace for 6 weeks and then get checked again? I vote that you go back in 2 weeks to see if she's coming along better. I'm not a doctor, but that's our precious vagina.
I'm very sorry you had this happen. I hope the healing picks up now, quickly!

Re: Cuff not healing-dr Rx'd Estrace for bleeding

Is we waiting to check you for another 6 weeks??? Or just no sex for another six weeks. I had bleeding after sex about the same time period...my doc. said cuff just needed time to heal. In my case, there was actually a small piece of fallopian tube/peritoneal lining that had dropped into it and healed into the cuff. He then had to cauterize it and hope he wouldn't have to go in through surgery and cut it out on the other side of the cuff. I'm not telling you this to freak you out. But if he wants to wait a whole six weeks, if something gets in there in that period of time, it will heal into it and hit will heal completely around it. If your doc. wanted to wait 6 weeks to examine you again, tell him you'd like it to be sooner. That's my experience anyway.

Take care,

Re: Cuff not healing-dr Rx'd Estrace for bleeding

i have a question...how did the Dr clear you for sex if your cuff was not healing well? Didnt he check it at your post op? I was just wondering because I have my 6 week post op next week and I am not cleared for sex until he does a pelvic and at least 7 weeks have gone by. (he had told me 7 weeks if your cervix comes out and that is if you are healing well)..

I hope you start to heal fast! i will keep you in my prayers

Re: Cuff not healing-dr Rx'd Estrace for bleeding

Sorry you're having issues. Sometimes the cuff doesn't heal as planned. It is good you went back to the doctor. Hopefully the cream will help with the healing. I have read estrogen cremes can help the vaginal tissue heal. Did the doctor perform a culture? Did he tell you any theories as to why the cuff isn't healing well? Did you have a pelvic exam prior to being cleared for sex? Was the intercourse the problem or was it already a problem?
I agree with the other ladies about speaking to your doctor to be examined sooner than six weeks. I had post op issues and things went on for to long. I kept going back to see the doctors every 4 weeks, next thing I knew almost 6 months had past and I was still having issues. They then started to say the pain was chronic. Stay on top of things and if you do not feel 100% confident your doctor is addressing all possible routes consider a second opinion. It never hurts to get a second, unbiased perspective. I suggest to consider it now because it sometimes can take weeks to get an appointment. My advice to you - Stay on top of things, follow the doctors instructions, ask questions, rest and take good care of yourself. Good luck

Re: Cuff not healing-dr Rx'd Estrace for bleeding

Hi Ladies,
Thanks for all your comments and concerns. To answer your questions: the dr I went to yesterday was a 2nd opinion. I went out of town to a specialist for my surgery, so he couldn't do my post op exam. I went to my regular GYN in town 3 weeks after surgery, and she said I was all healed. Obviously, I wasn't. So when I started having problems, I went to someone else. And the reason he wanted to wait 6 weeks so see me was because he felt it would take that long to heal, and he said there was no use in coming back before that, just for him to tell me "yeh, it's not healed yet." I used the Estrace last night. So far no side effects.

Seems to me with things being able to be "healed" into the cuff that shouldn't go there that there's very good reason to check it. Weird doc.

Have you given the original surgeon a call? They may have some useful input. If for no other reason they should be aware of the problem for there own knowledge. Good luck

I thought I had remembered you posting about doing too much so I went back through a few of your last posts to confirm. If you are doing too much, the spotting will increase or continue on longer than if you're resting better.
