Recovery >> How Long???

After reading some of these ladies
experiences, I have to ask if anyone
has regained a normal life... Sooner?

I've heard from 3 other "horsey ladies"
that have had a Total Hysterectomy
(uterus/ovaries/cervix/the whole works)
and back to riding horses within 8 weeks.
(one was back in the saddle within 13 days)
I thought that she was "pushing it too soon"
but who am I to know how a person feels
afterwards, each individual is different....

I just hope that I can recover that quickly!!!
(one can always hope & pray)

God Bless
Ronda

I think you will find as many different answers as there are women responding to your question. We all heal at our own individual rates...our age makes a difference too, as does our level of physical fitness, skill of our doctor, type of surgery...etc. etc. etc. I am about 7 1/2 months out, and I feel great (other than some lingering hormone issues), but I didn't start to feel good until after about 3 months post-op. I went back to exercise class about 10 days post-op, but I was in great physical condition before the surgery and I was very low energy/low impact in class for several weeks. I went more for the socialization than the actual workout.

Recovery can be different - the type of surgery and incision you have, the extent of the surgery, and whether any repairs are done can all factor into the recovery time. Typically the initial recovery period is about 6-8 weeks - it can often take many months to be completely healed.

My surgery was done as a LAVH - I kept both ovaries. My initial recovery time was 6 weeks - it was about 4 months until I felt "back to normal".

Your recovery time and how long you will have certain restrictions will be up to your doctor. Be sure to discuss any questions you have with your doctor before surgery.

Take care.
