Nov. 22 LAVH/BSO - Stitches, Itchy and Smelly!

About a week ago, I noticed that a weird smell was starting. I immediately blamed my belly button surgi-strips (I had LAVH/BSO). So, of course, I scrubbed them off in the shower! (They were nearly off anyway and were this disgusting blackish color.) But, it did not solve the funky smell issue. I think I read somewhere on here that the smell is a good thing because it means healing, but it's been over a week and the smell is still here. I’ve never had odor issues and this is really getting to me.

In the hospital, when they removed the catheter, I was incredibly thankful. I felt awful the entire time with that thing in. Having a return to normal peeing was the start of my feeling better. I guess I use the term “normal” loosely here because it still feels very strange when I pee. I have a bladder sling from a prior surgery and don’t know if that is playing a role here or not. It’s not painful, but it is very uncomfortable when I pee.

I am glad that my surgeons didn’t keep me in the hospital until I had a BM like I’ve read from other posts. For me, that didn’t return to “semi-normal” until over a week after the surgery. At this point, I think I’m back to pre-op status in the BM department. My appetite has returned, which I think helps the situation. The first few days home from the hospital were tough. I ate a banana in the morning one day and felt full until dinner time. A part of me wants to keep that side benefit! It would really help with the weight loss goal!!

I get tired very easily. It is hard to make it through the day without either napping or just sitting and resting for about an hour. I’m trying to keep moving, but that also gets tiring. I need to sit down for a while after a task as easy as emptying the dishwasher!

Well, that’s my first post-surgery update. Any feedback is welcome.

THANKS!

Glad you are doing well. The tiredness is what got to me. I didn't realise how the surgery would affect my energy level. It will get better though. Just listen to your body and get plenty of rest. I pray your recovery continues to go well.
