sex and the hysterectomy

I was just looking at some of the post op posts and it seems everyone is having great sex after hysterectomy. So I guess my question is how? Is it a miracle cure or what? I havent been interested in it, nor have any desires for it for a long time. I thought it was due to menapause, and all that goes with it. Dryness, some pain, etc. Am I normal or does alot of other women lose their desire with pre menapause???

I can only give you my personal opinion.....

I was experiencing painful sex prior to my hyst...that is, when we could actually have sex in the very small window between periods.

Post-op sex is different from pre-op. There are different feelings, different contractions and it just feels different...but not in a bad way. For me, the painless sex is great.
We have had to use some lubricant a couple times but I think it's something that comes with age....not due to the hyst.

My surgery also gave me a new outlook on life....no pain, no period, no running for bathrooms, no fear of standing up after a 2 hour meeting at work......
So if you combine the new life and the no pain....yeah, life is great....sex is great.

But, this is only what happened with me...I can't speak for anyone else

Hi there! You'll find that the answers to questions about sex really run the gamut here, just like anywhere.

Each of the thousands of members here is an individual, which is really why this question doesn't have one answer.

Here's my experience: My sex life was excellent before surgery. I couldn't imagine anything physical having any effect at all on my responses or my sex drive. It just didn't compute!

This is what has happened: I'm now about 1-1/2 years post-op, and while I still have and enjoy sex -- it's definitely "different". I no longer have the desire to initiate sex, or that pre-sex tingling, which is a bit odd for me but doesn't really bother me all that much. My orgasms are much different (actually, more intense than before) but I don't have as much natural lubrication as I used to have.

Some women have very serious and long-lasting sexual side-effects from having this surgery, so it's definitely something to consider.

If you're having sexual difficulties now, it may be due to hormones. You may consider speaking with your doctor about this prior to your surgery. to you.
