Quick ? re: bowel prep and liquid diet

Tomorrow is the big day. I am supposed to be on clear liquids today, however I just couldn't resist a cup of coffee this morning complete with flavored creamers (won't do that tomorrow am I promise). I was just so tired, no sleep last night. Do you think that I really blew it? I have all the clear broths, orange jello, popsicles, tons on water on hand and of course my coconut flavored Go-Lytely is chilling!

My surgery is at noon friday, and I barely ate anything yesterday, Dr. doesn't have have any orders for stool softeners, or tums or anything like that post-op. Are these items that I should go get today?

Any help is most appreciated. Now I better get packing!

Lapascopic Supracervical Hysterectomy 7/19
Large fibroids, heavy bleeding, clotting, pain in back, legs, anemia and of course I have the uterus the size of a six month pregnancy! (very embarrasing)

Quick ? re: bowel prep and liquid diet

I HAVE to have my Italian Cappucino every morning. The day I started the bowel prep, I had my coffee first thing. I know they say coffe is okay without creamers, milk, etc... but I had only one cup of my regular Cappucino and I did fine. If you follow the bowel prep (I had to do the Fleet II, which TOTALLY cleans you out) you will be very empty.
I was dreading having to do nothing but liquids because I am hypoglycemic, but after only one shaky episode, I adjusted and didn't have any more problems. I felt better after having beef broth and I am no fan of beef & chicken broth, but the beef broth sustained me better than the sugary drinks that you are allowed to have. I really liked Crystal Light Lemonade and steered clear of anything carbonated.
It is a good idea to get stool softeners or anything else you may even remotely think you may need today, but if your bowel prep includes drinking Phospho-Soda do whatever running around you need to do BEFORE drinking it. You will need to stay close to a bathroom after drinking it. It works unpredictably. The WAITING is the hardest part, but you will be FINE. Please post on the post-op site when you feel like it!
My prayers are with you.

Quick ? re: bowel prep and liquid diet

Wow, you're almost there!

I used Senekot-S (laxative and stool softener) post-op and really found that it helped. But, your doc may suggest something specific, depending on how you're doing post-op, so maybe it would be best to wait until you're home to send someone off for supplies (there will likely be a prescription for pain meds that will have to be filled anyway.)

My thoughts will be with you tomorrow, Soon-to-be-Princess Lanjontay!

Quick ? re: bowel prep and liquid diet

After you have your golytely you won't have to worry about your coffee anymore! I wasn't told anything about having clear liquids prior. But if that's what your doc suggested, try to follow it as best you can.

Good luck.
