Does anyone know about this?

Just curious, my Doctor told me that I would have to douche right before I went into surgery. I never thought about it but I guess that makes sense. I guess they want it clean.

Anyway, I need a little pep talk. I am getting nervous about everything... Please remember me!

(((Maverickswife))) Some DRs prefer to have the patient do a betadine douche before surgery; others have it done once you're under anesthesia by the OR staff. Either way, yes, it's a good idea to have everything nice and clean before any incisions are made - it's to help reduce the chance of infection.

When I got to the hospital, I was given a) two Fleets enemas and b) a betadyne douche. Here I was, a 44-year-old woman, and I'd never douched before.... and I had never given myself an enema, much less two of them. Luckily, just at this time, my aunt showed up and she took my husband out of the room, so he couldn't hear what was going on in the bathroom.

I can give you one caution about the douche: It will be very brown in color and, at least to me, it felt very cold. Not uncomfortable, but very interesting to say the least. But that part of the procedure was over in pretty short order.

Well I didnt have to do a douche or enema but I did have to shave myself before going to the hospital. Was told at pre-op that if not done well enough i would have to do it again at the hospital--thought that was weird. Also on the douche part---i was on the 2nd day of period and my doc said didnt matter to him he was gonna take it out anyway! just my experience
