diagnosed with thickened uterine lining

Hi, I am 51 and dr. diagnosed me with post menopausal bleeding even though I had missed only one period. That lead to ultra sound and endometrial biopsy which was negative. Doctor sdia, due to the scarring from ablation 6 years ago that the biopsy might not be accurate. She has recommended a complete hysterectomy. I do not want to have surgery, but I also do not want a possible cancer problem. Any ideas? I will get a second opinion. I am feeling completely overwhelmed.

Re: diagnosed with thickened uterine lining

Hi bluebutterfly33
I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with bleeding again. I was 51 when I had my hysterectomy because we just couldn't stop the bleeding. I was also diagnosed with a thickened uterine lining, tried an ablation and several other options and eneded up having a hysterectomy. They determined that my thickened lining was due to an over abundance of estrogen.

I'm wondering how heavy your bleeding is and how long it's been going on? I know for myself the bleeding became a quality of life issue that had to be dealt with. It sounds as if your biggest concern at the present time is that the bleeding could be caused by endometrial cancer. Is that correct? I just wanted to make sure there is a clear understanding of your concerns so we can help with any thoughts on how best to deal with your symptoms.

I'm glad to hear you are planning on getting another opinion. I'm unsure what the odds are that your bleeding could be caused by a cancerous condition or some other source. There is so much that can cause bleeding as you approach menopause. Did your dr do a blood test to determine that you have gone through menopause? I know everyone is different, but at 51 I was just beginning to go through menopause, so I wonder if you know for sure where you are in that process.

I hope you can take your time and do everything possible to sort through your options and make sure you are making a decision your feel comfortable with, knowing you have explored all your options. Keep us posted on what you find out.

Re: diagnosed with thickened uterine lining

Hi Rita, Your support is so helpful. Being able to communicate with someone who was in a similar situation is so helpful. Taking time out of the day to respond is a blessing. I assume all is well with your health now? Yes, the concern the gyn is expressing is endometrail cancer. I do not think I am in menopause. she the gyn. did do bloodtest and the FSH 3 different times at my asking and the results are like a rollercoaster. From 129 to 44. All within the postmenopausal range. I thought menopause was when you missed periods for a year. That is not the case with me. The bleeding is not an issue as it is only spotting as it always has been due to the ablation I had 6 years ago. So any more ideas are welcome. It cold be my endometrosis, it could be a adenymosis. May 7 is the second opinion. I want to make sure I make the right decisions as we all do. From experience I thought menopause is defined as going a year without a period. (which hasnt' been the case for me) My gyn says with my FSH level there should be no kind of a cycle. So I am a little confused. Peace & hugs to all of you!
