surgery aug 1, baby wont take bottle

Ugh I'm nervous. My surgery is aug 1. I can't get the baby to take a bottle yet, I've been pumping and she loves nursing. I know I'm not gonna be able to nurse for a couple days with all the stuff they give me. Any suggestions???

Have you tried having someone else give her the bottle while you leave the room? Lots of babies don't like bottles if they can smell and hear mommy nearby.

Have you asked your doctor how soon after your surgery you will be able to nurse your baby? If you have to bottle feed for a couple of days you might have to purchase a few different kinds of baby bottles. There are some that are supposed to be most like breast feeding. You have a few weeks to practice, so hopefully by the time you have surgery she'll be more receptive to the bottle.

Although my "baby" is now 19 years old, she too would not take a bottle until I took the nipple from the bottle, and soaked it in warm water right before I fed her. Worked like a charm!

I would try different types of nipples for the bottle. I never had any problems with my babies taking a bottle but both of them would only take certain types of pacifiers. If I gave them a different one they would just spit it out and cry.
