Trying Mirena before resorting to hysterectomy (UPDATED)

I had the Mirena due to heavy and prolonged periods. It was great for about a year then the cramping and heavy periods returned. The next step was uterine ablation which was successful for a short period of time. Now im back to severe cramping and lower back ache. Since i am no longer planning on having children, hysterectomy is indicated. I do have friends that have the Mirena and has worked wonderfully for them.
