Re: Bowel Prep hint

Thank you! I guess the waiting causes more anxiety. I'm always afraid of anesthesia.

Re: Bowel Prep hint

I am going to talk to my Dr. IF an emena works well and you arent running to the toilet for hours, why would one have to do the mag process? IS there a difference? As much as an enema sounds horrible, I would rather do that than suffer thru the nauseating process of drinking stuff!! Any ideas on why Dr use different methods?

Re: Bowel Prep hint

An enema cleans out the colon, and sometimes not all of it. A drink will clear out the entire bowel/intestines, not just the colon. This is why you are to be on a clear liquid diet while doing it, to eliminate as much stuff as possible from your intestine. It can result in a big difference when the time comes if your bowels don't fully start back up for several days after your surgery.

Re: Bowel Prep hint

If you have to drink Magnesium Citrate for bowel prep... Try mixing or chasing it with Crystal Light Lemonade it makes it easier to drink if you can believe that lol.

Re: Bowel Prep hint

I have been instructed to take Ducolax and PegLite. Apparently it tastes horrible. WILL be asking what I can 'chase it with'. Thanks Ladies for your offering of explanation. Makes sense. Enema is from bottom up, the other is from top down.

Re: Bowel Prep hint

I will take 4 Dulcolox two nights before, and another 4 night before sugery and some warm water enemas instead. I am preparing for a colonoscopy tonight and I am NOT drinking that stuff before surgery.

Re: Bowel Prep hint

Sea salt flush does exactly what mag citrate does. Basically your body cannot absorb it so it pushes it and everything out. Works well...cost less...and is safe.

Be sure to do exactly what your doctor orders for the bowel prep. To do otherwise could cause your surgery to be postponed.

Re: Bowel Prep hint

chryvine, I like your idea, however I was told 'if I do not follow instructions to the letter, my surgery could be cancelled. I don't want that. Perhaps in time, doctors will see the benefits of sea salt and use it.....Unfortunately, right now, it is not an option to anyone I have talked to!!!!

Re: Bowel Prep hint

I regularly do sea salt so I figured if I do a flush a couple days before bowel prep....it should not cause any problems. But it will definitely make things smoother. I don't hesitate to talk to my doc about everything....! So he will know.
