coughing jag

OMG, I had a bit of a coughing jag and I almost passed out. Held a pillow over my incision, but still had the worst burning pain. I'm afraid I'm going to tear my stitches open. What else should I do?

If you are sitting or lying down, try bending your legs so your knees are up. Helped me a lot

Omg I just did that too! I thought I was gonna split my belly! It hurt so bad. I am at a loss of what to do though. I'm not coughing again!

I keep coughing and am petrified that I am going to open something too!! My last one was like yours and I thought too I was going to pass out!! I just hope this goes away as I am only 1 week out of surgery and there is a lot of illness around me!! Hope you don't have any more episodes!!

I made sure I stayed sat up right and I started the night in bed propped up (I then slid down during the night). I also drank lots to keep my throat moist, which also helped me with my water intake.

Unfortunately I spent the 1st 3 weeks post op coughing like mad and did split the end of my incision open 2 days after having my stitch out. My cough is still lingering 7 weeks later though no longer painful. I felt that my cough caused me more problems/pain than the operation
