Two weeks to go......

Now I am starting to get a little "edgy". All the things I didn't worry about are now starting to worry me. What if my one remaining ovary doesn't work? Will 3 weeks be enough recovery time? (I am having a full laparoscopic hyst -everything (including cervix) except for the right ovary). What if I get returned to work and I don't really feel up to it? (my job is high-stress, long hours). What if I do end up in full-menopause? Will I be able to get it straightened out before I go back to work?

And, here is the wierdest one of all - please forgive me, but it is honestly a thought I am thinking. On 9/10/01, I had my hemmorhoids (sp?) removed. The surgery did not go well and I was left with skin tags and chronic bleeding. Of course, the next day was 9/11 and I was home all by myself with those horrible images on the TV crying like a maniac and too doped up to move. It remained that way for the next 3 weeks until I was returned to work. I stopped watching TV but it did not erase what I saw from my mind. Now here I am facing another surgery while the world is in turmoil again. My fear? That something bad will happen again while I am home from this surgery and because the other surgery did not go well, this on won't either. Go ahead, I know you are thinking it - I am nutso, right?

Anyone else get a little irrational as their surgery date got closer? Thanks for being here, this is the only place I feel safe enough to let this one out!

Two weeks to go

Yup, I think it is normal. these thoughts have gone through my mind also with the enws the way it is...being they had a cut of day of the 17th and i am going the 19th I was worried also as to what might happen. Think maybe it all goes with the party here....sigh, at least I know I am not nute..I mean I even thought what if the power goes out, something happens while I am in the operating room etc...stop that! Have to think positive thoughts, and I am sure all will be ok...
Sorry you had to go through that and be by yourself. I can imagine how hard it was on that terrible day for you...

You are so NOT nutso! Oh, the games our minds play with us..

Please keep visiting these boards, because you'll find reassurance everywhere. You're putting an awful lot on your plate right now..Maybe you could take one issue at a time while you're waiting..Research your question, find a satisfactory answer, and then move on to your next concern.

9/11 is a day that will never leave our minds...ever. Sadly, you were forced to watch it repeatedly, being "confined" to home. And I know there's alot of tension in the world right now. I know you want to keep informed of it, but would it be such a bad thing to watch "I Love Lucy" every so often?

The weight of the world is not on your shoulders, Andrea. One day at a time, Sweetie ~ that's what you need to do.

Hi Andrea,

It's normal to be edgy going into this surgery. And I would probably be feeling the same after what happened after your last surgery. Though times are stressful right now, it's not likely that anything similar will happen.

Jus take a deep breath and try to relax. It won't do you any good to be so stressed out going into this. Everything will turn out fine, one way or another. You will get through the surgery, and you will recover and lead a normal, healthy life.

Try to relax by doing things that you enjoy, dinner out with your friends or family; long, hot bubble baths by cande light with soft music, go see a movie, or read a good book, whatever you like to do that can take your mind off of everything for awhile. Pamper yourself.

Now, not to add to your worry or anything, but three weeks really isn't long enough recovery time. Can you take at least another week off? The longer you can have to recover, the better off you'll be when you go back.

Best wishes and lots of s,

Lisa

Two weeks to go......

Andrea -

I am 3 weeks from today and my mind is whirling too ... how bout this one .. my surgery is on April Fools Day ! Now there is a date that will get you going LOL (trying to make you grin here!) The thing now that is making me crazy is for some reason i'm freaking that the insurance company will deny my pre-authorization. I am really being stupid with that one LOL

Between reading all these posts and talking to a couple of friends, I know that I am doing the right thing and am looking forward to putting the pain and agony behind me. Matter of fact, I just talked to someone who said, "I am so excited for you!" She just had her's 2 weeks ago and said I will have my life back =)

In the next 3 weeks I am going to concentrate on getting my house and family in order and getting things like the kids Easter baskests and my hubby's birthday present taken care of. (both of these things occur with in a couple weeks post op. And of course, I am going to keep reading on this site .. it is awesome!

Anyways, good luck with your journey =)
