Don't like being on Meds

I'm having LSH done September 7th and worried about being on meds. I don't like how they make me feel. Is there any meds they can give you that doesn't make you feel dizzy and lightheaded. I don't want to be out of it and rather be on something less drowsy and something with less side effects. If I could I rather take Advil but I fear I will probably be in alot of pain and might need something else. Thanks!

Re: Don't like being on Meds

Hi...I had my uterus & cervix removed on Aug. 3rd. After surgery (I did laproscopic davinci) I was on 600 mg of intervenous Ibuprofin...begins with a "T" and can't recall what it was. They also gave me one percocete while in the hospital. The Dr. who discharged me says he usually writes prescriptions for Vicodin instead of Percocet because he said people manage it better, but then after talking to my doctor or reading her notes or something, saw that she'd already written to prescribe percocete when I left the hospital. Anyway...I was too weenie to take the percocete! I only took the oral 600 mg of Ibuprofin that they wrote for me...and I only took it for 4 days and then didn't need it.

Re: Don't like being on Meds

Do you think its possible that the Ibuprofin would help??? or with the pain that I will have I will probably need alot more?

Re: Don't like being on Meds

I only took Ibprofin. I get "loopy" on vicodins n stuff like that. In the hospital they gave me half a dose of Demerol every 6 hours n Ibprofin every 4 hours i believe. I did ask for a full dose of Demerol at night to help with the pain so i could sleep. But when i got home i only took 600mg of Ibprofin every 6hrs for 2weeks. Now i just take aleve twice a day. My doc said to take some sort of anti inflammatory for 6weeks. Try no or less heavy pain meds. U can always add them if u need them. --- good luck!

Re: Don't like being on Meds

Thanks I will mention this to the nurse when I go in before surgery. I will be there at 7am and surgery is at 9am so I should have plenty of time to tell them all the stuff that I would like. I hope I'm not sounding to demanding but I have other things I would like them to do if possible.

Re: Don't like being on Meds

My doctor discharged me with 800mg ibuprophen script and percocet. I only took the percocet for couple of days because they made me feel drunk.

Right now I am taking tramadol (also known as Ultram) for pain for another health issue and it works really well. It is narcotic like but without all the loopy side effects for me anyways.

Hope your surgery goes well!!

Re: Don't like being on Meds

I asked my nurse and doctor who came to see me before i went in. I asked them to start me with half a dose of pain meds. They had no problem with it.
