One more question I forgot to ask
Going to the castle tomorrow. If I have ovaries out, I'll be in surgical menopause. How hard is it to lose weight? I'm 100 pounds and more overweight. Previously I lost 65 lbs, but with not feeling good, McDonald's I gained all of it back. Once I hit my 6-8 week ok from doctor I want to get back into the gym. If I'm menopausal how much harder is it to lose weight. Also, will I gain weight? So far I've experienced hot flashes, insomnia, nausea and brain fog.
How much worse is actual menopause, because I think the hot flashes I have now are bad. I'm a fan of Biggest Loser and some of those post menopausal ladies have lost a lot of weight.

Re: One more question I forgot to ask
Hi - I'm overweight too - have gained & lost but w/ Lupus & fibro it's a hard fight - I'm right there with you.
I would get ok from your doc on exactly what you can do @ week 8 - some things ( some weights /ab work) still may not be a great idea.
But walking on treadmill should be good. I think the hardest thing sometimes is habits - hitting the McDonalds, not hydrating, etc
I've had people lose weight & some gain weight - you should work w/ your doc about hormones if you're getting ovaries out - I am post op day 6 for TAH/BSO - I have a estriadol patch on now & going to the viviella patch tomorrow. I didn't have menopause until after surgery ( I'm 41) but it hit me HARD that day of surgery - with patch I now feel great - no symptoms of menopause. I have lost about 10 lbs pre-surgery and a few since, just b/c not eating much & trying to make really healthy choices!
Best wishes to you & much support!

Re: One more question I forgot to ask
Thanks for the info. My ob/gyn said it would be a few months before I started HRT if needed. Not sure why, maybe she wants to see how I do. We'll have to wait until tomorrow to see if I get the ovaries out. Regardless I'm looking at this as a new beginning to a healthier lifestyle. I know exercise and eating right is what I need to do.

Re: One more question I forgot to ask
Hi, please dont get too hung up on the whole issue of having your ovaries out. I had one of mind left in, its now two weeks post op and its stopped working, so there never can be any guarantees. I had some menopausal symptoms immediately post op, but now with the HRT patch, im doing great. I would seriously question why your doctor wants to wait to start you on HRT, you need to ask about the risks to your bone density and other potential problems caused by not having the hormones in your body.
With regards to exercise, slowly and steady is the way to go. I am 27, borderline underweight and relatively fit.....i now feel about 95 and getting very tired after a 10 minute walk. My best advice i can give you is listen to your body, get up and moving the day after your surgery to reduce the risk of blood clots and chest infections and try not to worry. I found after surgery, i had no appetite at all, so resulted to eating little and often...the best thing to do is have plenty of fruit to snack on.
Good luck with your operation, take it easy and concentrate on one thing at a time, your weight will go when you are ready and able, dont risk having serious complications by rushing into things you are not ready to do. One word about macdonalds, i really wanted one two days post op, so my husband went and got me one.....i spent the next two days with chronic wind, indigestion, constipated and in loads of pain. Cant even look at a macdonalds now!! Hope all goes well for you

Re: One more question I forgot to ask
I'd agree - and I'm only 7 days post op. somedays getting up & walking seems easy, then 1 hr later I'm EXHAUSTEDL)
some days are better than others & you'll know your body better than anyone, but always talk to your doc & always listen to their orders ---there are stories here about women who felt fine & did too much and then had a lot of pain or issues after.
One day at a time!

Re: One more question I forgot to ask
I am 3 weeks and 3 days post op (TAH/BSO) for severe endometriosis. I am also around 100 lbs overweight.
Like you I had some symptoms prior to surgery. Since my endo was so bad they want me to avoid HRT if possible.
I am not really having symptoms yet.
I have lost about 15 lbs since my pre-op. I think the trick is that I started walking as much as I could while in the hospital. I am up to walking about 1/2 mile a day. I take it easy and stop to rest if needed.
Relax and focus on healing. The rest will come.
