Hi, i had my TAH/BSO on the 7th Feb and i have been going to the docs everyother day as my incision opened up, and i got an infection. He put me on antibiotics. It is now 16th March and i have to go again today for another dressing although he did say it was looking a lot better when i went on Wed. Last week i got a urine infection so i was on more tablets and very sore. I seem to have one good day then a few bad. I dont go back to the hospital till 17th April. I am meant to go back to work on 4th April but my job is very physical and i am worried i wont be right by then. As anyone else has problems like this. The doc who did the op did say there was a lot of things in the way and it was harder than normal to remove.

I'm so sorry you have had to endure all of this. I would see if you can get an extension on going back to work. I had my surgery one day after yours and while I didn't have any complications this is my third surgery through the same incision this year and I am quite sore. I have been working from home on my laptop and don't start back at the office until the 26th. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone

I also had my TVH on Feb. 7th. Although I didn't have an incision and the complications you are experiencing, I too don't seem to be healing well. I was at the doc about a week ago and he said I seem to be healing slowly and I am still very swollen. I also have a physical job and am wondering about returning to work. If I'm on might feet or sitting for more than an hour or so, I get very swollen and sore vaginally (anybody else have this?) I mentioned my return to work at my last visit and he said he would make the decision about my returning at my next visit Mar. 23rd.

I'm sorry you're so uncomfortable, wish I could help......be persistent with your doctor if you don't feel your ready to return to work. Don't make it worse by returning and overdoing!

Good Luck

I also had my sah on Feb. 7th. So sorry you are having all these complications. It does not sound like you are anywhere near ready to go back to work. Talk to your dr. I am sure you can get an extension of your leave. My complications have been mainly I am still in a lot of pain so saw my dr last week and still no lifting, bending, stretching, he just said to do what little I could. I just started driving very short distances this week. Hope you feel better soon.

I had TAH BSO on Jan 30 and was in hospital three days. The day after I came home, I coughed, and burst open some of the internal sutures. Ouch! Yes, it hurt very very much plus bleeding and what looked like my guts coming out of the incision. Off to ER--they really didn't do anything except call doc (it was a Sunday) and said to see him next day. Saw him next day--incision infected, staples pulling (in other words not doing much good) so staples were removed and I started going to wound care. Went there twice a week plus had to have daily dressing changes. Wound was pretty big--from my belly button to the pubic area and about one and a half inches wide. It has really healed up well now and I hope to be discharged next Tuesday. No showers so that has been a challenge (especially washing the hair!). I have a pretty ugly scar that will be there for some time.
I wanted to go back to work on March 5th but put it off until March 12th. I have sedatary job so haven't had too much trouble although I have not worked a full 8 hour day. I still hurt sometimes and still have upset stomach--was on four antibiotics the first two weeks which messed up the digestive system.
Are you taking vitamins--I had to take extra Vitamin C and Zinc and was supposed to drink Ensure (but it tasted terrible so I didn't). You want to eat a lot of good protein foods--I ate a lot of peanut butter toast. We use up more energy healing these type of wounds--I have lost about 10 pounds and still have no appetite to speak of.
I have no lifting restrictions per doctor but I certainly do per me since I know those internal sutures are not all healed (did you know we have about 150 of them in there? I didn't until I read it in one of the articles here). If you really do a lot of lifting, I would also encourage you to talk with doc about extending your time off from work or talking with work about doing a job that does not require lifting.
My belly is still very swollen. I also have to wear an abdominal binder (swelly belly binder was not strong enough) so that might help you if you are not already doing that.
Hope this helps a little. Keep us posted!
