Re: Did your insurance pay?

My insurance covered everything except my copay for the 3 day hospital stay, $35. Can't beat that.

Is your insurance refusing to pay? I thought that would have been established before surgery.

Re: Did your insurance pay?

I had to pay 20% (1500) but the rest was covered.

Re: Did your insurance pay?

Mine was pre-authorized and covered at 90% (I'd already fulfilled my deductable for the year).

Re: Did your insurance pay?

So glad to see this question. I got a letter yesterday from my insurance company stating my surgery was denied! I too thought it was sorted out prior to surgery. I'm freaking out over this bill! My dr has yet to call me back. I was told it would be covered and even paid my $2000 deductible upfront as I had not met my deductible for the year. So mad, I expect my dr to get on the phone and clear this up. Has your claim been denied as well?

Re: Did your insurance pay?

I am extremely lucky. My insurance paid 100% with a zero deductible. I knew before my surgery that everything had been covered. How can they deny something after the fact? That is crazy!

Re: Did your insurance pay?

Most insurance companies require "pre-certification" or "pre-authorization" for surgery. But the two that I've dealt with lately (my job switched carriers in January) expect the doctor's office to take care of getting the authorization. If your doctor is part of a larger practice or works for the hospital, call the business office. I found that the clerical staff at one of my doctors didn't have a clue about this stuff and had to go to the hospital billing office to find out if it had been taken care of. Whatever you do, DON"T pay the whole bill. I'd have to mortgage the house to do that. The billed amount is so much more than what most insurance companies pay and most providers agree to accept. If you do end up responsible for a big bill, negotiate a lower price.
Good luck!

Re: Did your insurance pay?

My insurance paid 100% with no deductible. I didn't pay for anything.

Re: Did your insurance pay?

I had to pay my $2500 deductible plus 20% copay. Total about $7000. I am trying to work out something with the hospital. In the meantime i have a payment plan. Darn insurance denied the path report of my uterus because they feel it was a "preventative" diagnosis.
For $7000 i could have flown myself and a friend to Thailand .. Had the OP, a private room, after care for a week and a one week hospital stay ...

That's pretty crappy. Can your doctor, resubmit, justifying why it was done in the first place.
