Re: Hurricane evacuation 10 days post op

I began driving about week and 1/2 after surgery. I waited until after I was no longer on pain med. and can react quickly if needed.

Stay Safe.. God Bless

Re: Hurricane evacuation 10 days post op

I was also driving within a week - just short trips around town and I was no longer taking pain meds. I think it's do-able but as someone else suggested have your boys go caravan with you.

Re: Hurricane evacuation 10 days post op

I'm sorry you have to do this. I drove that early, was only on Aleve for pain. I'd say take some ibuprofen or tylenol, and seat belt padding, water, and snacks. Take your phone car charger. I think you can do it, I hope it won't take 10 hrs. See if your Dr suggests TED hose to prevent clots on such a long trip. It's a stressful time for you and I hope it all works out OK.

Hi I drove day 8 post op. No other adults in my home. I did not have any narcotic pain killers though, just paracetamol and ibuprofen. My car is an automatic so was easy enough. Like someone else said I had a small soft pillow under seatbelt lap strap. I drove about 1 1/2 hours that day. Coming home from hospital I was a passenger and it was a 2 1/2 hour drive. I was still wearing the anti dvt socks as I was told to wear them for 2 weeks. Biggest issue is being able to turn your head or twist enough to see either side when changing lanes or behind you if reversing? Is it worth just going early before a mandatory evacuation to avoid big traffic jams? Hope the hurricane goes away.

Re: Hurricane evacuation 10 days post op

Since our Parish did not call a mandatory evacuation for our area and storm will not get pass cat 1 we decided to stay home. For Katrina we needed new roof but no major damage considering rest of family in lowers part of Parish loss everything. My wonderful Hubby and sons have generator, food, and water ready. They have been taking care of everything. Thanks everyone for your prayers.

What a relief but I'm sorry you still have the storm. Sounds like you will be OK, that's a blessing.
