Pain medication after hysterectomy

So I was kept another day because I had vomiting after eating. Which was about 30 minutes after morphine drip was taken off.

When I asked for pain management they said Motrin 600 or Percocet? I was like I don't know? Is that switching I've gotten both today. So confused.

Re: Pain medication

The motrin has an anti-inflammatory compoonent and the perc's are more for pain control. I was on anti- inflammatories and perc's for 2 days after my morphine was done. try to take them with food if u get nauseaus. I had a hard time with it and had to stop all meds completely. It sucks

Re: Pain medication

Motrin 600 is 600 mg of ibuprofen, an NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). You may also know ibuprofen as Advil. Ibuprofen is my own personal go-to for pain management, but some people can't take it because it causes stomach trouble for them.

Percocet is a mixture of oxycodone (a narcotic) and acetaminophen (Tylenol).

Re: Pain medication

Thanks ladies! I take naxopren for my RA. I'm going to ask if I can have that at a higher dose and the Percocet for night time for sleep.

Pain medication after hysterectomy

Hi Rosesm811, to the other side!
If you had the vomiting, then I would recommend against the Percoset; I was prescribed plain oxycodone, and it made me throw up, so I had to stop taking it. As for the Motrin, I think that would be a good idea; I've always trusted ibuprofen for pain relief myself. I have a sensitive stomach, so I agree that you should take it with food. Also ask about taking plain acetaminophen, and try alternating it with the Motrin, which is what I did during my first week post-op. Best wishes for your continued recovery!

Pain medication after hysterectomy

Hi Sweetie,

After my surgery I was given an anti-inflammatory and Oxy Codine. I was told to take the Oxy pill and in between those times I could take 800 ibuprofen. It helps with the management of pain so you can rest. Since rest is a huge part of recovery it is very important to have the pain under control. I pray that your recovery goes smooth.
