5 days post Total abdominal hysterectomy - still in pain and no bowel movement

Hi drink more water and keep walking and eating right. I posted some good tips in your recovery room. But in addition taking a stool softener eating flax seeds or taking a little miralex will do the trick if waiting is no longer an option. Welcome to the other side by the way

Hi my fellow hyster systers,
Today is Day 8 post op of my total abdominal hysterectomy -kept the ovaries. I finally had my first BM yesterday on day 7. It was effortless and I moved my bowels 4 times yesterday. Thanks to you all for the tips... It all worked together for my good.

So a few things, the gas pains are very intense but once I pass the gas I get immediate relief. I'm still in pain, tried to get off the norco pain meds yesterday for the Tylenol extra strength but I had to go back this morning.

I examined my incision this morning and the steri strips are a bit moist and it also has an odor... Should I be concerned? I've taken showers two days in a row but I never showered directly on the spot and also towel dry. Should I use a hand dryer or what? Please help.

I am just at 6 weeks out myself. Doing better all the time. In the first few weeks, it would be every other 3 or 4 days before I could actually feel the improvement. Don't try to rush yourself too much. Keep listening to your body. If you do have an odor, maybe put a call into the doctor's office even for just piece of mind. Always better to be safe than sorry. This recovery is such a slow process, we don't want anymore setbacks to extend it, LOL!! Prayers for your daily improvement sister!!!

It took me days on stool softeners before i had a BM. I still take 2 a day. I have a BM once or twice a day just like before surgery when I could run. Now I just laze around most days.
