Why keep the cervix?
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could explain to me the advantages of keeping the cervix- I am just curious.
My doctor is doing a LAVH and taking the cervix, he had some good reasons so I feel comfortable to it, but am wondering what the cons to taking the cervix are.
Thanks!
Nikki

Why keep the cervix?
Dear Nikk,
I had my surgery a year and a half ago, keeping my cervix. The surgery was the best thing that happened to me medically. I did not keep my ovaries so there is no possibility of mini periods which can happen to some woman, not many, who keep both cervix and ovary/ovaries. My recovery was a little faster due to the fact of keeping the cervix (a little less internal stitches). I have to have a pap every year but you should still have a pap even if you choose to remove cervix. I was very happy I kept it, I feel exactly the way I did before minus heavy bleeding and pain. It's really wonderful.
Good luck with your decision.
Belle
