Scheduled for surgery 11/29--need help with with decisions

Hi , I'm 50 yrs old, not exactly sure where I'm at in menopause since recently (few weeks ago ) had IUD removed. Been having a lot lower back pain, abdominal pressure and incontinence for some time. I postposed going to the doctor for a long time about my symtoms until they just got worse to where I couldn't stand it. Anyway I've got a 10cm cyst on right ovary and 3 cm cyst on the left. Had Ct scan and tumor markers come back as non-cancer. My gyn says ovaries need to come out and he recommends a subtotal hysterectomy (they leaved the cervix in). He was also talking about if not able to do the procedure laparoscopically then he would do it vaginally. He also mentioned during the surgery he might have to remove the cervix. Just came back from my GP (we live in a very small town, so to get a second opinion from another gyn would postpone my surgery even more). At this pt I just want to get it over with and start feeling good. Anyway my GP said what the gyn was probably referring to was that since I'm a larger sized woman that they might not be able to do the laparoscopic approach and then he would do it vaginally and my GP assume the cervix would have to be removed then. Here is the surgical write up on my preop sheet (as written by the gyn):

"laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophrectomy, possible laparscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy possible laparotomy"

What does the "possible laparotomy" mean at the end of this???

Help ??

Possible laparotomy means possible full abdominal incision. That's a pretty standard "possibility" but just refers to the type incision. Good luck with your surgery.
