Educate me in the finer points of DaVinci please!

I am so confused...I am having a DaVinci hysterectomy on the 12th, but how will my uterus come out? My consult with my surgeon was 6 weeks ago and lasted nearly two hours. I guess I should have taken better notes! I do understand that he will be using a morcellator to shave down the fiborid in there before turning my evil uterus into "chicken strips". (No crying here). However, he also talked about a "vaginal cuff". So is he taking out some of my "stuff" vaginally as well? I thought DaVinci surgery had everything sucked out through the keyholes? Or does every lady who has DaVinci need a vaginal cuff just because of the nature of the surgery?

Re: Educate me in the finer points of DaVinci please!

You'll have to ask whether the plan is to remove the uterus vaginally or via the incision holes, as it could be either way. But no matter which way, if they take the entire uterus including the cervix, you'll have a vaginal cuff. The cuff is just where they remove the cervix and need to close off the opening that creates. If they leave the cervix, then, no cuff. Whether it's davinci, TVH, LAVH, or TAH, no cervix means you have a cuff. I hope that explains it OK.

Re: Educate me in the finer points of DaVinci please!

Each doctor has their preferences but my daVinci was performed where my left ovary (unplanned removal but became necessary) both tubes, uterus and cervix were all removed via my vagina. But some will cut up the uterus and remove it though incisions if you are keeping you cervix.

For me the pain was less having it all removed via my vagina and my only real post surgery pain has been from coughing and gas.
