Not sure how to feel

I'm 24 and I was told on Monday that I need a hysterectomy. The doctor said they will decide on partial or full when they get in. Looking forward to it as it will put an end to a lot of my symptoms and frustrations but sad too. Honestly I was wanting the hysterectomy so much that I thought all I would feel is happy. If this is what I want to help make my life better why am I so sad? Such mixed feelings right now and scared of the whole process. I can't get it off my mind, it's all I think about and i'm more sad/scared than excited but I don't want to let that on to my family. Just feel all alone

Re: Not sure how to feel

It is perfectly okay to have mixed emotions and go back and forth between feeling relief and sadness.

I'm 32 and like you knew this was coming and thought I was perfectly fine with it and then was completely overcome with grief during a prayer at church. I only had 10 days to deal with my range of emotions before my surgery and while I know it is the best thing for my health I am still sad late at night when I am sitting alone or lying in bed listening to my husband sleep.

For me the moment it really hit me that I had made the right decision was about 10:45 this morning after my surgery when my doctor explain what he had discovered during my surgery. The complications that could have happened if I continued to put off my surgery could have had major repercussions.

I know I will still have moments of sadness but knowing that I am on the road to recovery is so important too.

Talk to your about everything you are feeling, your concerns, etc. It is important to let them know too; even if you don't share it with your family. I don't tell my husband but I can talk to both of my sister and mother about it - they've been there too.

Sending you support and hugs!
