itchy incision

I know your incision is suppose to itch when it is starting to heal. But any suggestions on what to put on the incision to lessen the itching.

itchy incision

Hi radnapp...my surgery was 3 days before yours. When I went for my 2 week appointment, they told me that I could LIGHTLY scrub the incision area with my soapy washcloth, then after patting dry, to apply some lotion and rub it in well. I think the itchiness is escalated when that skin becomes dry. They said the lotion would help the itchiness, and that the action of rubbing it in (gently) would help with that 'lumpiness' that occurs while we're healing. I reapply the lotion as needed through the day.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

I'm just tried some lotion because I just started itching in my incision and I begin to spin into a panic attack. It goes from itchy into feeling like something crawling is around inside my skin there.

I tried to take a small stuffed animal and rub it and then I was up beginning to scratch my arms too. Yipes!

First time I thought about calling the doctor since surgery because you can't really scratch the area and I was getting worked up.

But what would I say; "Happy Holidays, I'm itching and I can't scratch." I'll try and get through the night and holiday's first.

My doc told me last week that I could use Neosporin over my steri-strips...just rub it in gently and good. I think they actually make some now that also has anti-itch...you might try it.

Yes, Dr. Mom needs to stop it. I don't have any surgi stripes since my stitches were taken out last week.

Thanks Msmonih and Happy Holidays!
