TAH: Surgery rescheduled!

Well I was scheduled for surgery Friday July 20th (this past friday). We arrived at the castle @ 6:15 (apparently hospital policy to have everyone arrive by 7, no matter what time of surgery). Waited in waiting room for 4 hrs got called back to pre op area @ 10. Where nurse informed me that the doc would still be like 3 more hrs!! (my start time was 11:15)I asked that they inform my DH so he won't be worried. By 1:30 area was empty except for me so they let hubby come back and wait with me. By 2:15 my doc came in and said there was a problem, the previous case took lot longer than planned (bless her heart, she went back @ 8am!!) and that he would not have time to do mine that day! Would need to reschedule. He came up with Aug 1st. Of course by this point I was mentally ready and little dissapointed that didn't get to go thru with it. My DH got a little PO'd. LOL gotta love him! But I was OK with it. I would rather not be rushed! Yes, have to go thru all that again, but it's OK. Friday just was not 'my' day. I was going to post this on the post op side. But I had already changed my surgery date and it would not let me. So now I have week and 1/2 to prep for it all over again. But I'm positive about it, now I can do the little things that got over looked and feel 100% good about next date!

I agree with you there, better to reschedaul than rush it and do a surgery when the surgeon is most likely exhausted. It's more important to get them on the top of their game, when doing something so important. I am sorry to hear you have to go back and redo the waiting part again, as it's a lot to build up to....but, at least it's not a real long wait and hopefully all goes as planned this time!

Sorry you had to have your surgery rescheduled, but as the others mentioned, it is better to have them do that than to have the doctor operate when he is tired. When it comes to surgery you want your doctor rested & alert.
