Re: TAH on Tuesday
Hey there, I had my surgery this past Wednesday. I was able to come home yesterday. You can expect to have some pain and lots of gas! However, this does get better with time. Try to stay ahead of your pain by taking meds at the scheduled times. The key is to control the pain before it gets bad. As for the gas, walking definitely helps. You will be just fine. Take it easy and accept ALL help offered. Be blessed

Re: TAH on Tuesday
Hi , I had a TAH also 10 days ago. I got to hospital . Nurse took vitals and preg test . Told me to kiss my bf and step dad then I woke up. I felt the most pain when I first woke up . He ended up doing a lot of extensive work inside and it took 4 and a half hours. They gave me enough medicine that first time to knock me out which I was grateful for. When I woke again I was only sore and achy. The catheter annoyed me though and I had to keep it overnight . Next day it was out and I was walking . I stayed 2 nights then came home. I stopped pain meds by day 6. I've been walking a good amount and honestly I feel better than I have in years!!! I suffered bad pain before surgery due to endometriosis . The pain from that is gone!!! I am still very swollen though . Bigger baggy clothes are helpful. Gas-x, slippers and night gown is what I brought to hospital with me .. And iPod . Good luck on your surgery!!! Hope it goes well for you

Re: TAH on Tuesday
Hi, I had a TAH 3/11. I had the pre op meds and then I honestly remember nothing until later on that day in my room. I don't remember being in recovery at all. I know the nurse showed me how to use the pain pump button, and someone else brought me water. I wasn't really conscious of the cath until I realized I hadn't wanted to pee! By that evening I was sitting in the recliner in my room. With the amount of pain meds I was getting, I really felt zero pain, or maybe I did but just didn't care. The 2nd day I walked. Took myself and my IV pole with my new best friend (pain pump) for a short stroll around the nurses station. It helped with the gas. The cath came out that afternoon and I felt a quick pinch during that. I went home day 3.
I understand your anxiety, I was the same way. I hope a little insight from a few of us can help alleviate it a little. Will be thinking of you and look forward to seeing posts from you on the post op section. Lisa xxx

Total abdominal hysterectomy on 3/25
Thanks for all the replys I am definitely nervous but I know I will feel a lot better after all the surgery is over with. I have not yet started packing for the hospital. I'm trying to chase after my 3 kids. Should I pack pads? Do you have a lot of bleeding after and I am having an abdominal incision how many days did most of you stay

Re: Total abdominal hysterectomy on 3/25
Expect to have someone at home with you at first, at least the first 24 hours.
Expect to be sore and be prepared to have things ready for yourself. You cannot lift, push, pull on things, etc.
Prepare your bedside for things you will need.
Prepare your hospital bag.
Prepare your partner for how you will feel.
Don't expect too much of yourself.
You will be sore, but keep moving, and slowly it will be easier to get up and down from the bed, couch, chair. Walk about the house, rest, read, take time for you.

you're having a TAH right? I stayed 2 nights after mine, and went home the afternoon of the third day. I didn't need pads as everything was taken out and there was no bleeding below.

Re: Total abdominal hysterectomy on 3/25
The hospital will give you these lovely panties and any supplies you may need for bleeding. Make sure you have a little pillow for coughing since your surgery is abdominal. You will need to hold it tight to you while you cough to help with pain. Also, make sure your shoes are slip on. You will not be able to bend for tying for some time. Be sure to talk to anesthesiologist if you think you might have nausea. They can give you something to prevent that. And most important...if you don't heal as fast as the other women on your thread do not worry. Normal for this surgery covers a wide area of interpretation. Best of Luck

Good luck! I didn't pack a thing aside from my glasses and contact lenses... I only stayed 1 night with LAVH. I had very little bleeding but the nurse gave me stretchy panties and a diaper looking pad. Lol. I kept my feet propped on pillows so gas never went to my shoulders the first few days.
