Exercise...When and How Much?
I haven't been home a full 24 hours, yet I am having great trouble staying still. How soon can I get up and start moving? I really want to get sewing etc. Any advice?

You can sew for sure. I did not do a whole the first week. I did sit outside under the umbrella and by the first week was going places like the grocery store lowes. By week 2 was told get off the couch and move it . I did start walking every night.

You don't have to stay in bed unless your doctor ordered you to. You need to follow your restrictions but you can get up. Don't lift anything, but if you can sit in your sewing chair and it doesn't hurt " sew away". Get up and walk around often as sitting for prolonged periods of time can make you sore.

Re: Exercise...When and How Much?
You might call your doctor and get the OK and some advice.
I was up and walking around the house right away. Heck, I even walked out of the operating room after surgery! My first walk outside was at two weeks and on the advice of my neighbor who had a hyster years ago I reduced my ambition for that first walk. I said I was going to walk around the block she said, "Maybe just up and down the block today dear?" She was right. A lot of us got the advice to walk every day when we were able as we could, as moving helps the healing process.
My advice though is take it easy and be very gradual. Some of your HysterSisters are going to be superstars and right up and at it. This isn't a race. Follow your own body and trust it. Sometimes you can't feel the ouch until well after you've overdone it. This is your healing time so be gentle.

Re: Exercise...When and How Much?
Are you wondering about exercise or activity? Sewing sounds to me like an activity vs exercise. I didn't do much the first week but by the middle of second week I was preparing some meals and going for short walks at the end of the week. The third week I continued to increase my walking distance and pace. When I saw my doctor in the middle of the fourth week she said I could do any exercise that didn't involve lifting and as long as it didn't hurt. So I went kayaking for an hour, started doing some easy yoga and continue pretty vigorous 40 min walks. I'm coming to the end of my fifth week. I do all regular household activities except lifting over 20 lbs, vacuuming, mowing and such - things I was specifically told not to do.
