One month post hysterectomy: Covering healing sites so they don't get rubbed

I had a da vinci total hyst and then 6 incisions sites are healing. However, I can't stand to have anything with a waistband rubbing against two of them.

Go any ideas on what to cover them with? Does it harm them to be rubbed?

Thanks.

Re: Covering healing sites so they don't get rubbed

I had the da vinci surgery 5 weeks ago. I have kept my 4 incision sites covered with my shirt and worn looser fitting workout style pants. I have tucked in the shirts or worn a tucked tank shirt with another shirt over top.

Re: Covering healing sites so they don't get rubbed

I just realized that your surgery was only one week before my surgery. I have/ had the surgerical glue with 2 stitches at each of my 4 incisions. Did you have the same type of incisions?

So far 2 of my incisions have healed so much that the surgerical glue and stitches have peeled off by themselves. My incisions are totally healed when this has happened.

Hopefully you continue healing well too.

I'm using fruit of the loom microfiber briefs. A size larger than normal. Walmart or target. They cover the incisions just fine.

Re: Covering healing sites so they don't get rubbed

SLouise,

Sounds like we had the same style stitches. The scabs and glue have all fallen/rubbed off. All that remains are pink/brownish scars.

It's not that I think it'll bother the incision site or open anything up. It's just that it's irritating when clothes rub against them. And 2 are right at the waist line. I'm thinking maybe really large bandaids over those 2 sites might work. Since I'm getting hot flashes now, i can't imagine layering clothing right now.

Also, I have this "sunburn" like sensation. I had the same kind of sensation when I had a breast reduction 2 yrs ago. Feels exactly like a sunburn and it wasn't even on the incision areas. Something about nerve endings waking up.

Anyway, I might give the tank top idea a go. If I can keep from getting too hot to want to start stripping in public, lol.

Thanks.

I used band aides. I had one in particular that I kept a bandaid on for a few weeks.

I used bandaid like pads that could be cut to size.(the kind in the hospital uses) I'm it them a little bigger so when the tummy swelled they wouldn't get tight. Got them at a medical supply store.

I use non stick pads and secure them with tape. It definitely keeps the from being irritated from rubbing. I also put neosporin to speed the healing process. So far its been great.
