A mysterious cure?!

Hello ladies, I didn't check back in after my latest trip to the castle - had colonoscopy and endoscopy to check out bleeding/possible pain sources/look for blockages. Colon looks normal, my stomach is eroding and bleeding and I have now added Nexium to the list of drugs. Well, the dr took 2 weeks to call back and really didn't know my case. I could hear all sorts of ruckus in the background, like he was at a sporting event or something. In the hospital, he told my husband the stomach was causing me pain, and on the phone he said the stomach would not be causing my pain. He asked what I was taking for the stomach -and he's the one who prescribed the Nexium. So he recommended more testing to look for nerve damage, and I said no thank you.. I think I need a new GI dr, ladies.
Well, I was upset, and I thought to myself, I give up. I eat like I'm supposed to , I take all the drugs, I am exercising like I was told, and there's no end to this mess of abdominal pain/digestive hell/hormonal wackiness. I'm gonna eat what I want, all day, I just don't care anymore. I may as well eat something fun. So, I ate 2 jelly doughnuts for breakfast, potatoe chips for lunch, and two more doughnuts for dinner. They sure were wonderful - fresh and soft, with a hint of crispiness about the edges.....but I digress. Well, I was prepared for some major suffering, and do you know what happened? I felt great. I had so little pain - it has been a year since I felt that good. My husband thinks it's the fiber I am supposed to eat that is causing the trouble, and I am wondering too. I cut my fiber intake into about 1/4 of what I am supposed to eat, and I am feeling WAY better. I am really wondering what this means - how can the medical advice be so wrong? Do I not have IBS then? Does this mean adhesions have caused the trouble? I have no idea, and I have to find a new GI dr apparently. I should make and appointment with my family doc, I suppose. ANyone else exxperince this?

I was very interested to read about your reaction to having less fibre. My mum has IBS and was told (like we all are) to up her fibre, especially bran. She did this and ended up way sicker than she started. So she decided to do exactly the opposite. She ate no bran at all and her symptoms were so much better it was amazing. She still ate fruit and vegies and took metamucil for fibre, but she completely stopped eating bran (ate grain breads instead). We decided that bran was way too irritating to her digestive tract. Since then she's managing her IBS very well and keeping it well under control.

It could well be a similar situation for you. You could do a test for a few days and see what happens. You'd be no worse off now would you and you never know!!!! Your symptoms tie in with something irritating your gut.
