UTI's common after Hysterectomy??

Tomorrow will be 3 months post TAH/BSO with bladder tack & A/P repair and I am on my 3rd UTI. Anyone seem to get a lot of UTI's after hysterectomy and does anyone know why it's so common?

Re: UTI's common after Hysterectomy??

UTI's can be common immediately after hysterectomy due to being catheterized during surgery. But I don't think they are usually an ongoing issue months post op. I wonder if the bladder work is playing a part in this? Or perhaps you have a resistant type of bacteria and the the antibiotics are not clearing it up completely?

Hopefully this will be the last UTI for you!

UTI's common after Hysterectomy??

My OBGYN said my issues aren't from the hysterectomy (I wouldn't expect him to say any different). I had a catheter urine sample and it showed bacteria. I've had two regular urine samples and they show bacteria and a trace of blood. In the last 7 days I have had 3 Rocephin shots (back to back), 2 days of one antibiotic and 3 days of another ((a stronger one) still on that one.. During my last post op visit (I still have them weekly because my cuff still isn't healed), he felt around and pressed here and there and what hurt was my bladder.
He touched cuff repeatedly but it didn't hurt. There is a stich that is holding up the healing on a spot about 3mm big.
I am still having the same amount of pain & trouble peeing :-(
OBGYN told me if I wasn't better in a few days, that I should go to er. He said it would take forever to get in to see an Urologist (he's right ... eariest I can get in with mine is Oct. 1st).
If things don't improve at all by Sunday, that's where I'm headed.
Also, one urine sample I had done & cultured did not grow bacteria. The cath sample isnt back yet.
It's really getting the best of me :-(
