First 48 straining

Hi, Worried about something. Had TAH with removal of tubes and ovaries on July 19. Didn't have a good hospital experience - Foley was out 11 hours early due to leak. Porto potty by the bed, but no help getting out of bed to pee with urinary tract infection. I strained a lot trying to get up and out. My pain started out as just insicion pain and after PAC was stopped I opted fro no oral pain meds. Last couple of days, the pain is deeper in my belly, and sometimes feels like something is trying to fall out of rectum and vagina. Did I damage something those first 48? I asked the Nurse Practitioner who took out my staples today. She said she thought I would have a high fever or excruciating pain by now, Just this dull ache belly wise. Tobina

I definitely would call my doctor and ask. Never hurts to check. I can tell you that I had a ton of internal stitches and felt like my guts had been ripped out. Only a dr could tell you if you damaged something but well worth the call and peace of mind for you. If you have opted for no meds, I commend you.....a real women. However you should realize that you will be hurting more than most. I stayed on meds for two weeks! I'm a chicken like that though.

good luck to you and keep posting.

Just a note: One of the purposes of pain medication is to free up the resources that the body uses to register and control pain and inflammation and use those resources to heal damaged tissue.

When I was 4 days post-op I decided I could take my prescription pain meds less frequently. I soon discovered that in addition to being in more pain, I was also having chills because my body was trying its own coping mechanism for the pain. When I went back on the meds, the pain was reduced and the chills stopped.

Some people stop their pain meds because of the side effects. Some people decide their pain is worse than the side effects and continue to take pain meds for a week or two. Either way, they are listening to their bodies and responding. Every woman who has a hysterectomy is a real woman - likewise, no woman who chooses to take her prescribed pain meds is a chicken.

H[/QUOTE I agree with you Hurrydog. Being in uneccessary pain seems to hinder recovery.
