LIW chapstick warning

Don't just read the ingredient list on the tube, it only has the active ingredients, there isn't room to list everything there. When I was pre op and searching for lip balm without petroleum I was reading the package for ingredients and 99% of them, including blistex have petroleum listed. One of the only ones I found, and that includes tubes and the little jars without petroleum was Burts Bees and Charmex(?) not sure about that name.

My mouth was so dry and uncomfortable after surgery that I was very grateful to those who said to make sure to take lip balm to the hosp.

Easy, there. Some lip balms have tint in them and that could be termed cosmetic.

Lip balms are fine post op, not usually a problem unless the pre-mentioned oxygen is in use, but keep them for post op. I don't know a lot about surgeries, but there might be some procedures that would be hampered by slippery lips.

I packed some gloss and other toiletries in a 'survival' bag and didn't use most of it. The one thing I did use, and swear by, is my Mary Kay moisturizer. I had dry lips for years before it dawned on me that I could use it on them too.

Best thing is to check with doc to see what is ok to use and what could cause problems in the OR. I wasn't aware petroleum products (like lip balms) could react with oxygen, so that's a good fact to keep for future reference.
