Pretty sure!
I guess I left a few sisters confused about what I was scared about. It isn't the thought of surgery it's the thought of being out. That's alot of trust to have in one person, but see I have never had any major surgery before. I'm one of those control freaks, submitting to others scares the beejeebies out of me. Some have talked about epidurals, but I have friends who had those during labor and now complain of terrible back pains and headaches. What gives? Anyone relate? I will choose to be out totally. Count myself blessed that I can afford to stay at home and fully recover. There are no known cures for adeno. right ? Ihaven't found any in the research I've read. So I'm convinced to rid myself of these awful symptoms for good(& already have housefull thanks(3) sugery is best? Am I weird for being afraid to be put under anesthesia?

No, you are not weird. Everyone is nervous before a surgery. I have been put under 3 times that I can remember, and I think it is an awesome experience. You don't think there is any way that you're going to fall asleep and in a few seconds, you're out. You wake up what seems like a few minutes later and they're all done. I just find it intrigueing and kinda fun. Maybe I'm weird
Wish you well. Good luck.

I was afraid of the general too. I had a bad experience as a child.. 20 something yrs ago and it took me 10 hours to awake after a tonsillectomy. Also.. I have had 2 failed epidurals in the past and I just couldnt bear to go that route again so I had the general.
I expressed the same concerns you have. My dr told me that the OR has special machines which monitor you and how far 'under' you are at all times. There is also meds they can use to help wake you up if needed. Anesthetic has improved so much, even over the last few years. It gets better and safer all the time.
My A-man told me if my biggest fear was not waking up/ waking up too soon.. that I had absolutely nothing to worry about.
They were so right. My general was a breeze. One shot of propafol in my IV in 2 breaths later (literally.. i remember 2 breaths with the O2 mask on my face) and I was out. I woke up when I was supposed to and it seemed like I had only been asleep for a few minutes.. but in fact it had been 2.5 hours and I was in recovery.
I didnt get sick, I didnt get a headache and I am a severe migraine sufferer for over 20 yrs. I was tired and groggy.. but I was on my feet by 2 pm to use the bathroom.. with assistance, and later that night I was going to the bathroom on my own.
This was my experience with the general. Maybe yours will be the same.. maybe a little different.. but all in all, I wouldnt have done it differently.
I hope this eases your mind a bit

Thanks ladies
Your imput has definitely put a clamp on my nerves. If I can tolerate labor drug-free, general should be cake walk. Right? right. At least I will be asleep during this pain. Another question that concerns me is losing weight afterwards. I currently keep a bloated puffiness around my middle and tender to touch sometimes, will sugery increase my weight? I've read some of the messages that say you gain weight after a hyst. Is that all hyst or those where they take ovaries as well? Really don't want the extra weight!! Any comments or suggetions? My doc said I should still be me when it's all over, we both want to save my ovaries.

Bugg,
You belong to a very large group, I too have a thing about being in control of my situations. I have learned over the past 17 months that giving up some of that control can be a good thing. I am recovering from a brain injury, that "control" thing was taken out of my control the day I was struck in the head by a steel store front sign. When you are ready for your hyst you will talk to if not meet with the anestitist (sp), let them know your feelings. Don't be afraid to share your fears with them they can give you something before you actually go into OR to help you relax. Give yourself a break, you are allowed to be scared. Skip the Epidural and go to sleep thats the way I am doing it. Just try to think of it as the start of your time for much deserved rest.

General-A: I'm also a control freak but my experiences with general-A, especially this last time, have been fantastic. The closest I've come to being aware that I was being "put under" when when the A-man said, "You're going to sleep now." Blink! I was out. During my hyst I didn't even remember going to the OR. They gave me the "cocktail" that made me SOOOOOOO relaxed I didn't CARE what they did to me!
Weight gain: You and me, babe! I also don't want the added weight. I worked really hard to get to my ideal weight in my mid-30's then I started into peri-menopause, and after years of maintaining, I gained it all back. Now that I'm released to resume normal activity again, I'm watching what I eat and working to increase my activity again. I finally feel HEALTHY enough to concentrate on my weight and fitness. Come August I'll probably join Weight Watchers again. I'm on HRT and I'm hoping I'm now spared the hormone fluctuations that were spurring on my binge eating.

Pretty sure!
I was terrified the first time I had surgery and was knocked out. I was sure I would not wake up. I even told my 2 best friends what songs I wanted at my Memorial Service!! Talk about scared??!!
The anesthesiologist came in and told me what he was going to do and told me he was giving me something to make me relaxed and then they would take me into the operating room and give me something else to put me to sleep. I don't remember a thing about even going into the operating room. They said I was awake when I transfered to the table in the OR, but I don't remember a second of it. I don't even remember leaving the pre-op area at all. I was kinda disappointed cause i wanted to see what the operating room looked like.
My second surgery I was awake but really dozey and remember going into the operating room and transferring to the table. But within seconds I was out.
Then you are awake so soon after (or at least you feel that way). I do have a little difficulty waking up, or at least it feels that way to me; I just want to keep on sleeping. Which is weird for me, cause I'm not much of a sleeper.
I'm not scared of the anesthesia at all now. It's a breeze. you are out before you know it.
I'm scheduled for my hysterectomy on July 26 and the anesthesia is the furthest thing from my mind! I'm way more worried about the results from the biopsy on what they remove. I have had 2 endometrial biopsies that have failed so we don't really have an idea of what they might find. That worries me a lot more than the anesthesia. But I'm sure everything will be just fine anyway.
Don't worry about the anesthesia, really. It's a piece of cake fit for a Princess!! I'm looking forward to becoming royalty.
I will keep best thoughts for you.
