cervix

Hey peewee here's my take on the keep or toss situation. Since you are having that repair work I am doubting you are going to be needing your cervix to be keeping everything in place if you know what I mean. My dr. seems to think that keeping your cervix doesn't really make a difference as far as sexual pleasure goes (for you or your partner). She's a woman, and young, which makes me want to believe that she would have a more "modern" attitude towards sex afterwards (if that makes any sense).

You don't say whether you have had any previous problems with your cervix, i.e. abnormal paps, etc. or if you have tested positive for the hpv virus (the virus that causes cervical cancer). It is very common to have this virus...it's estimated nearly 85% of all sexually active women have been exposed to it. Since I have both (bad paps and HPV) that was enough for me to decide to toss that darn cervix.

Are you having abnormal bleeding? Some women, even after their hyst., continue to have mini periods because their cervix was not removed. Apparently, sometimes the dr. cannot remove all of the tissue that sloughs off monthly with your period with a partial hyst. This is not common but I discovered (from reading these posts) that it is not that uncommon. I am not taking any chances on that one. Call me pickey, but if I am to have a hyst. I don't want to STILL be having my period. Of course I am one of those lovely ladies who gets to have their period 24/7. No, no, no that is not gonna happen to me anymore!

Of course these are all my personal opinions and in no way are they intended to be medical advice. As you can tell, I pretty much think the darn thing should go but really, peewee, it is your decision. Don't let anyone make that decision for you but you. Either way, you are going to be fine, good as new! Maybe even better! Probably lots better! I bet even fantastic!

keepcervix?

Hi peewee,

Welcome to Hyster Sisters!! You didn't say how your will be doing the surgery - it's my understanding that if done vaginally, the cervix has to be removed. If done abdominally, then it can be left in. But, if you are also having repairs for a rectocele, I am assuming that you will be having a vaginal hyst.

In my case, I had a TVH with rectocele and cystocele repairs, and I did not keep my cervix (I wasn't given the choice). You might want to read this post, too:

Please go back into your profile (through the control panel)and enter your surgery date so you'll be on the calendar and will receive a special greeting from Hyster Sisters.

You'll be in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow.

Hi Val - Thanx for the advice. Never had any problems with abnormal paps, etc. Have wicked periods, tho and heard there could still be some spotting. My hyster is an added benefit due to the other surgery, but the biggest benefit as far as I'm concerned and no way do I want to have any reminder of another period so long as I live!!! So think I'll take your advice. Thanx and have a great day. Also, thanx for responding so soon.
