Switching Doctors

I'm just typing this to vent. I get angry every time I think about this.

Background: I didn't want to hear any details about the actual procedures with my lapro or my surgery. I made this clear to my doctor, and she was okay with that. I just wanted the basic amount of info that I needed to be able to make choices, such as whether or not I should keep my ovaries.

We agreed I was going to keep my ovaries, at least 1 of them. The right one had a huge cyst, so we weren't sure if I'd be able to keep it, but she said she would try to just remove the cyst.

Fastforward to right before I was to get anesthesia. I was talking to my doctor and she got called away for a meeting right in the middle of one of my questions. Meanwhile, I heard her NP say something about "bso" to another nurse, while looking at my chart, and I said, "wait, wait, are you talking about me?" She said, "yes, you are having your ovaries removed."

!!!! ???

So I start freaking out, and the NP tells me that my ovaries are what drive the endometriosis, so it's likely that I'd have problems in the future if they weren't removed and I told her that the doc and I had talked about it and decided against it because I am not eligible for HRT, plus I have a few mental health issues, plus I only had pain during my periods and had a HUGE fibroid in my uterus. They hysterectomy was to get rid of the pain, not 'get it all over with,' if you know what I mean. So she says to wait for the doctor to get back.

Doc gets back and basically tells me the same thing, almost like trying to talk me into having them removed, after we'd absolutely decided that I would keep them.

I had no intention of talking to her about my ovaries. If I had not heard that NP say "bso," I'd've woken up without my ovaries!

I'm sure all the papers I signed before surgery would've made any verbal conversation we had in her office a moot point, so I would've basically been out of luck.

Not to mention freaking out right before I was about to have surgery, and having to re-make the decision to keep the ovaries!

I guess I've just been letting it stew, because I didn't get really mad about it till the past few days. I went to see her on Friday, and she didn't mention it, so I didn't either, which was the main reason I made the decision to change doctors. But another reason is because she talked more to me about the situation of the cab companies in our area more than about my surgery. I did NOT want details before surgery, but I wanted as much detail as possible after. Same agreement we had when I had the laproscopy done. But It was like pulling teeth to get any info from her.

Plus, I'm sick of sitting in her waiting room for over an hour for EVERY visit. lol.

She's a really nice person. I've liked her since the moment I met her, but she seems distracted or something. I don't know what it is. But it scares me, and I'm going to another doctor. My husband said that my new doctor should check and see if I still have my ovaries lol Sad situation, though, seriously.

Okay, got that out of my system, thanks for having this venue for us!
