Heading back to the Castle

Hello Sisters.

First I want to thank Gillian for all of her support when I needed it most.

I went to a new GYN today. She was very nice and very open to listening to my post-op complaints. She did an exam and found that I have problems that should have been found by my surgeon when I originally complained about them.

I will be going in for another lap in a couple of weeks to remove my ovaries from my vaginal cuff. I was put back in the hospital four days after my hysterectomy for a secondary infection to the cuff, and bowels. My ovaries "dropped" and are now connected to the cuff.

I had also posted on here a while back that I felt air escaping from my vagina. When I brought this to my surgeon's attention he got angry with me and told me "That's IMPOSSIBLE!". case closed.

Well this new doctor (mind you I never said a word about air to her) told me she felt something she had never felt before.

Air.

She said that when she was doing the exam she not only felt it, but heard it too. She was able to make it happen several times. She told me she believes I have a fistula. She said there is probably a small hole from my colon to my vagina and that is not only where the air is coming from, but the "discharge" as well. She also told me that this is a direct issue from the secondary infection after the hyst.

I will have to go in for repairs on that after the lap is done.

Thank you for letting me vent on here when I have. Thank you for never judging me, and always making me feel that I had a place to feel safe.

Geri.

what a bad deal

Oh Geri,
I am so sorry you have to go through this. Didn't you feel terrible when the first gyn didn't listen to you? I hate that the most! I mean who knows our bodies more than we do?

But I am so glad you found someone that appears to know what they are doing, that will listen, and feels that they can put you back together.

I hope someone will come along that had a lap after their hyster and can tell you how it went for them.

So sorry to hear that they didn't get it right the first time. I will keep good thoughts for you that the next time will be the final one and you will be living a healthy life very soon. Good for you for not just accepting what the first Dr. was telling you. Wish you the best and let us know how you are doing both pre and post op. -Kestrel

Hello Geri

I am glad you found another dr. who will listen to you. She sounds like a good one.I was very fortnate to have a dr. who listened to every word I had to say. He helped me find specialist to find out what was going on with me. I can't understand why some dr's can't admit they made a mistake. Nobody is perfect.He/she should have fixed it, so you can move on. I hope this will be your last surgery and you can begin your new wonderful life.
It will get better!

Oh, no.

I cannot imagine what you're going through right now, although it must be a tremendous relief to have a doc who finally listens to you...

Here's hoping you soon find an end to your suffering. I will pray for healing and that you get on the road to recovery soon.

Heading back to the Castle

I had been coming to this site and just lurking. I didn't feel I was justified offering my 2 cents because I believed it was my head that needed attention.

With coaxing from a friend, I went to her doctor. I remember that she was in the middle of her exam and I blurted out

"my surgeon didn't do the surgery, one of his residents did"

All of a sudden her head *popped* up from between my knees and she said, "he's still responsible, it was his resident".

She was sincere when she spoke directly to me, not at me. She was clear with her answers, and I didn't leave there in tears like the last three times I tried to go see my original surgeon.

I'm not happy about having to have more surgery, but I am happy that I have answers.

Heading back to the Castle

I've been losing so much sleep since this second opinion.

I'm scheduled for the first surgery on the 29th, which I'm ok with because it's pretty simple (like there's such a thing) compared to the fistula surgery that's to come.

I've read on these threads about other woman feeling "air" coming out of their vagina. My concern is that if this turned out to be a fistula for me, maybe others have one too and do not know.

If anyone feels air, please call your doctor. If they won't listen ask them what the chances of fistula are.

I'm now scared to death of the repair surgery. I was told by someone not to have the repairs done here, where I live, but to go to a major hospital in Boston or larger city. My hyster was done at a large-well-known-teaching-hospital and guess what... they ignored my complaints. I don't know what to do at all.

I'll be out of work again for a long time and I just can't afford this. I'm afraid we'll lose our home -- all because of "God Complex" doctors.

Thanks for the vent.

This is so humiliating for me to even talk to my husband about, but I feel like I can with my sisters who are having similiar problems. I was in the hospital for 9 days after my surgery had so many complications, so when I got home, I thought that the air coming out was just due to the surgery and things readjusting internally. I am 5 weeks post op and I still have air coming out all the time, it happened if front of my husband the other day and I got really embaressed when he asked me what that was. I just walked away. Should I call the DR. I mean is it really possible that something could fuse together, if I had a TAH, and have no ovaries, uterus, tubes??? thanks for the information. dorothy

Geri,

I am sorry to bother you when it is so clear you are not well.

I have been experiancing what I think is air also and a discharge that is light brown to dark tan (NOT old blood) is this what you are seeing also?

My thoughts and prayers are with you!
