Post-op after a hectic week

My suregery is over, been a week now. Things got really hectic during this time. After recovery Dh spent about 2 hrs with me in room. Told him to go on home and rest....But his mother developed bladder infection, while she was at clinic he came back in evening stay couple hours. My sisterlaw stay the night with me. Then Saturday father in law had a stroke. most of family time of course was spent with him. DH had to work that day. Sunday DH went to fathers room first then to mine and I checked out. TLC was less than most cases. Sunday I slept, but fortunately each day I have made leaps and bounds. I have slowed my usual pace but have been able to continue to keep house picked up and clothes washed ect. Dr. released me to drive. Which is very good DH is powerline and left yesterday at 4:00AM for PA to help restore power to that area. My doctor did talk with him about changes. I've been told by most women they have a new life and feel so much better. Emotionally it's still trying. DR has but me on Lexapro. I'm not a candidite for HRT. It's has helped to hear from everyone, knowing someone is out there that knows how it feels helps!

Post-op after a hectic week

Hi Natalie, Thanks for concern. I feel like I have breezed through better than most. The alone time is more than I would have wanted and a ose of TLC would have been nice. Some pampered women are lucky!
I had a TAH, no more ovaries. Because of past pre-cancer breast biopsies DR doesn't want me on anything. However she has said tht I would go back to the surgeon and get his advice if I wanted to try them, but that he would probably reject the idea too. So I guess I am going to trust her and hope my mood swings and hot flash are managed with the Lexapro and another drug she is going to prescribe next visit. Are you taking anything? What about special women's vitamins? Thanks again--Cheri

Hey dear,
You poor thing-- we are all pulling for you and praying for you!
Hopefully you can build on this:

We have had a truely great relationship before these problems.

He sounds like a "John Wayne" type who is not given to a lot of "touchy-feely drivel"? My husband is by nature that way. I remember through some of our low times being mad because we were neither one being fun to live with, but I thought it was HIS TURN to be nice first, or bring it up in conversation, since I had done it a thousand times already. I finally realized that would not happen. I read "The 5 Love Languages" by Gary Smalley I think, and it gave me a lot of insight into DH's personality. The fact that your husband is working such long hours at such a demanding job says a lot-- and he probably has no clue why that doesn't fulfill your every need! I know mine honestly didn't understand me when I told him I felt like work was a higher priority than I was. I gave up trying to explain that too, and just focused on how I could speak his love language. (sex and pies figure prominently!)I had to get over whose fault I thought anything was or who I thought should go first (because I think Biblically he really should have) and just remember that the end result was what mattered. When I gave love like he understood it, he became much more willing to stretch out of his comfort zone to love me like I needed.

Hope all this rambling gives some food for thought and will help. if not, know that I will pray and am thinking about you!

HUGS--
Melinda

PS Where was your husband after Rita? We had many linemen from NC in our town. My DH works for the power co here (customer service) and I know about being gone for storms! I'm holding out for a QUIET hurricane season this year!!

Hi nmyshadow2
Welcome to post op! I'm glad to hear you got through everything and are home now doing pretty well it sounds like. I hope you will be careful not to over do. Listen to your body and look out for signs that say "slow down, you need to rest". Your body will let you know.
I feel so badly for you that you have had so much to deal with. I hope your dh will come around and be able to be more of a support to you.
Please take care of you. We are here to help. Keep us posted on your progress.
's,Rita
