10 weeks and granulation

I went back to the Dr. today because of pain in my vaginal cuff. Sure enough he found granulation. Not a big deal but he examined me for pelvic floor fitness and said that it was great but said I have scar tissue on the cuff. What does this mean? I took it very easy and did nothing and still got scar tissue (inside pelvis) on the cuff? He said wait to see if sex is less painful. The granulation was VERY sensitive so my DH and I have not really has "serious" sex. LOL Can anyone shed some light on all this.

10 weeks and granulation

Hi Some of us just tend to form scar tissue when our bodies are injured no matter what we do -- taking it easy minimizes it, but can't guarantee that it won't happen at all. For example:

- After my TVH, I formed scar tissue connecting the two vaginal incisions from my A&P repairs which had to be surgically removed a couple of months later.

- A year later, when I had to have colon surgery, a mass of adhesions (scar tissue) was found on the outside of my colon where my left ovary had been located.

- After a breast surgery last year, I developed a seroma with scar tissue around it and connecting to the muscle, so that when I raise my arm, a dimple forms around my incision. Of course this was not there pre-surgery.

And all that was despite being a model patient (well, almost ) during my recoveries. Imagine if I'd not listened to my DRs' instructions about taking it easy.

What is your DR doing about the granulation? Sometimes it's treated with silver nitrate; sometimes DRs prefer to wait and see if it heals on its own.

Are you using any form of vaginal estrogen? It can help the area heal faster and stay more moist and elastic so you have a better chance that sex won't be painful.

I hope your cuff heals nicely and you have no further problems.

-Linda

10 weeks and granulation

Thanks so much for your reply. I did have it treated with silver nitrate which was not necessarily pleasant. That little spot was PAINFUL before he treated it. How would I know if I need it surgically removed and I would think everyone gets some sort of scarring?

Was the scar removal surgery a big recovery?

Thanks so much!

10 weeks and granulation

Hi again I had to have mine removed because it was in the vagina -- a thick bridge of scar tissue that connected the front and back walls, effectively dividing the vagina in two and preventing anything from penetrating. Most times, it's not recommended that scar tissue in the pelvis be removed unless it's interfering with, for example, bowel function when it's on the colon, because those of us who form scar tissue often form more after surgery to remove it, so it can be self-defeating.

However, the surgery to remove my scar tissue was done vaginally in an outpatient surgery center under Versed rather than general anesthesia. I was driving again the next day and totally back to "normal" in 2-3 weeks. My DR had me use lots of vaginal Premarin cream during that healing period to make sure I didn't form another bridge of scar tissue there, and I am happy to report that it worked great.

Ibeshoppin - I am exactly where you are, with the exception or rather addition of sutures not disolved yet! I am feeling great discomfort and am back on restrictions again. Dr. going to run some tests this coming week, and I quess he will decide what to do then.
Painful sex and not a lot of it in the past 10 1/2 weeks. maybe 4 times do to the discomfort. I am starting to freak out a little here, never expected this type of recovery.
Hopefully Ibeshoppin you fare better then I am...
Hugs and blessings to you. - Zella
