Scared

Hey sisters. My surgery is scheduled for June 24th. I will be having a Da Vinci hysterectomy, leaving (hopefully) both ovaries but taking everything else.

I am so scared. My husband and I have desperately tried to have children the past 5 years and now I am having a hard time dealing with the fact that I will never carry a child. I feel like I am less of a woman.

Reading this forum has helped me prepare for my surgery but when I let myself think about it very much, I fall apart.

Re: Scared

I am so sorry for your pain. While I can't relate to what you are going through about not having children, I am sure that many other sisters will be here to comfort you and help you.
As far as the surgery goes, I had a DVH nearly 6 weeks ago...you will be tender/sore and very tired for a few weeks. If surgery and recovery go well you will feel pretty normal by week 4...with bouts of fatigue every once in a while. Rest and pamper yourself as much as you can.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you so much. My doctor told me that I would need to allow myself to grieve because this is a huge loss. It is just all hitting me like a ton of bricks.

Re: Scared

Dear sister, there is a heading titled Grief and it is devoted to discussions to comfort those that share your feelings. The section is called Aching Hearts.

"Aching Hearts was created as a forum to be discussions over the grief, emotions of panic, sadness at loss of our wombs, sadness at inability to be a mom....."

I hope you find the inner peace you deserve. We are all here for you.
