Total hysterectomy & BSO but still get monthly cramps and blood

Hi I am new to this forum and a bit confused . On Feb this year I had a total hyster with bi lat salpingo . They said because of complications they could not remove all of my womb and cervix and a small portion remains. They also said they could not find my left ovary.
I still get monthly cramps minimal bleeding bleeding and still get PMS..sore breasts and feel like I am due on. I am 45. Why is this still happening? I have horrible cramps today although by a long way not as severe as I used to. I used to pass out before. Is it normal to have these things every month still??? Xx

Re: Total hysterectomy & BSO but still get monthly cramps and blood

It sounds as if your left ovary is still alive and kicking somewhere in there. It's still going through its monthly hormonal cycles, so you're still getting PMS. And you've still got a bit of your uterus and cervix, so the hormones produced by your ovary prompt the monthly accumulation of endometrial tissue, followed by the monthly disposal of this tissue (cramps, bleeding).

If you like, you can ask your doctor to test your hormones. I'm pretty sure that you'll find that you haven't gone into menopause yet. If the monthly symptoms are bearable, you may just want to hang in there until you go through natural menopause in your 50s.
