Would like to hear from Sisters 55 and older

I had my TAH/BSO at age 59. And I agree that each of us heals at different rates. Based on my experience, I was extremely fortunate to have an uneventful recovery that ran along the "average" timeline. The best thing that happened to me was finding HysterSisters. The information I received through posts, articles and resources helped me to feel comfortable with my decision and with my surgeon. I set small, positive goals for my recovery that would lead to the main objective of complete recovery. And was lucky enough that it all worked together. I think the positive attitude I had going in served me well on "the other side".

To dwl----So you were are my age. Question; since having your ovaries removed can you honestly say that there are no significant changes in your temperment and/or health as a result?? I mean my doc says he'll maybe take mine but I have no underlying problem with them as I know and why remove them???? Oh well--I am inclined to just let it be his call.

I am a little crazy about all this---my prolapse is not good and what happens if it completely prolapses. I went to ER on Feb/3.......... almost a month ago. The docs there told me it was not an emergency but that they could refer me to a gyno or I could go back to my GP and she could refer me. As I have written-I did all that and saw the Gyno last thurs--he wants to do the surgery soon. I am waiting to hear from his nurse today she told me she would call with the surgery date. This is just taking too long. I am really going to be upset if I have to go back to ER in worse shape than I am in now. Strange too because the only one to examine me at the ER was a nurse and she said that she would get doc's that she didn't know if they would do the surgery inthe ER or schedule it for the next week and was ready to move on that-then the doc who didn't examine me comes in with the different story--that the only gyno on call was already in surgery and that it was friday night--etc.--he didn't even want to see my prolapse??????? What is with that?? So I am walking around with my nerves wracked-can't have a bowel movement except with laxative and leaking urine and everday that goes by my stuff is prolapsing further. I am really upset--I wonder if all woman are treated this way??

And then to top it all off my insurance is not paying for the ER visits!!

In response to your question concerning any change in temperment and health since surgery. I can honestly say I feel wonderful. I have a number of annoying health issues; e.g., fibromyalgia, that a hysterectomy would not cure. However, my general feeling of well being has significantly risen since surgery. I have more engery and seem to be able to cope with life better. I'd like to give back the acne that has resurfaced since surgery and the addition of ET, but I can live with it. When I made the decision for surgery from a limited number of options, I was afraid not to have the surgery, afraid to have the surgery and in fear that I would be in worst shape coming out than I was going in...that I'd trade one problem for another. So far, I have been truly blessed with good results from the decision.

Hi, Midwestcaregive,

I had an SAH last november. I'm 54. I had huge fibroids and endometriosis and andenomyosis. I asked them to leave my cervix, and my ovaries unless they are diseased. It turns out they looked normal and I still have them. I had some health issues that made my recovery take a little longer than some other women's but by 2 months post op I felt pretty much back to normal.

I'm glad I kept my ovaries, although I can't really tell you why. But if they were problematic I would have parted with them without regret.

Good luck and
