Re: Wound Infected ....

Maybe peroxide stopped being use for something else and I'm confused- LOL! That's why I added the "I am not a doctor" part- didn't want to sound know-it-all when apparently I wasn't...

Re: Wound Infected ....

FIRST, THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR THOUGHTS/REPLIES!!!

Let's see ... where am I now ... in my infection nightmare. Ugh! I started the Antibiotics on Friday (Augmentin 875-125), per the Dr., started "irrigating" in the shower, putting the heating pad on my belly (not the incision). Noticed Friday Night that the "infection" was becoming more noticeable ... a red, raised, circle was forming on my belly (above wound). Woke up Saturday, vaginal discharge had soaked pad, panties, etc. Pinkish Red, Touch of Yellow. Cleaned that up. Lifted belly, to look at incision, and the DAM BROKE. The wound started pouring. Same Pinkish Red, Touch of Yellow. It POURED all weekend long. I talked to my Dr. She said keep an eye on fevers (none), and IF the incision OPENS UP, come the the E.R. And, meet her in her office first thing Monday morning. So, I dealt with it all weekend. Took antibiotic. Redness & Raised area went away. Vaginal discharge went back to a light, pinkish. Monday morning, the Dr. cleaned the incision, then sent me to the E.R. for a CAT Scan (to check if the fascia was still in tact?), it was. So, I spent the entire day yesterday in the E.R. Then the Dr. cleaned out the wound again (after shooting me with 2 doses of Morphine) and she PACKED IT. It's not a huge incision (there is only an inch that's open) most of my incision has closed. The infection is INTERNAL, it's just draining from the hole that I have. So .... we want to keep the hole open, so all the draining happens ... and we want to keep the hole clean. So, I will be visiting the Dr. & having a wound care specialist at the house for the next FEW WEEKS. I am SO SORE in that area, from everyone MESSING WITH THE INCISION. And, there is "packing" in there, so that adds pressure to it. So, I continue to be on Percocet, and Motrin. I've been on Percocet before, for long periods, I had no trouble getting off of it before. It's just annoying. And, one plus ... I finally found a GOOD REASON to be Unemployed right now. THANKS FOR LISTENING ALL! You're the best! xoxo

Re: Wound Infected ....

Ow- you poor, poor thing!!! I am glad they are working hard to get it under control- though I can't imagine how uncomfortable that would be to have them poking and prodding all the time. Ouch. Thanks for the update and continue to keep us posted!

Re: Wound Infected ....

Hang in there sweetie! It will get better! Mine was not quite as severe as yours, but mine did open up, in three places. Each spot was about an inch wide and maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch deep. It oozed some nasty looking stuff and smelled horrid. It was quite tender and I stayed on pain meds extra for it as well!

In time each spot closed up. Since it is open, it now has to heal from the inside out. As it heals there packing will become less and less and you will notice the hole is getting more shallow.

It certainly is a pain, quite literally!

Keep resting and doing what you doctor says....it will heal! With time.

Re: Wound Infected ....

to speak to the peroxide...my doctor used a mixture of saline and peroxide (yes is it like a bleach) to clean out the wound, and had me do the same then pack with clean packing material twice a day....the peroxide "boils" out the infection...i think the saline helps keep the peroxide from being too strong....it worked well for me...

Each person should do what their doctor recommends though...

Re: Wound Infected ....

Boy that sounds painful. I am glad that they are taking this seriously and getting you treated. Hopefully it will clear up and then they won't have to be poking you any more. I think that infections can be very painful. I had one years ago and every day I had to go to hospital so they could try to keep it open. It was probably the most painful thing ever so boy do I sympathize with you. Sending lots of good wishes and hugs.
