Hysterectomy questions!!

Well, after being drained, tired, having my nerves rattled for the last 7 months of an endless menustrail period..... I've found out that the culprit is a huge cyst on my left ovary. The first time they saw the cyst it was only 2.8 ct ... now it's the size of a large orange. It has totally engulfed my left ovary. After much decision and praying ... I've been scheduled for a abdominal hysterectomy on Feb. 27.

I've got some questions about it though... and I've been researching alot of info on this, but I'd like to get info from women who've been thru this ... Like, how long is the usual hospital stay for an abdominal Hyst? ... How long does the surgery last?

If anyone would share their story with me, I'd appreciate it so much.

just wanted to let you know that i understand what you are going through...my period lasted for 7 months also and i had a cyst the size of a grapefruit on my right ovary and a lot of small ones on my left. But i DID NOT have a abdominal hyster. I had a LAVH. So I really can't help you there. But i just wanted to reply and let you know that i can understand. Take Care.

Although I didn't have an ovarian cyst like you have, I did have a TAH/BSO about two years ago primarily because of severe endometriosis.

The typical hospital stay after a TAH is 2 or 3 nights in the hospital. I was 46 when I had my surgery and I was there 2 nights. Just about 48 hours total from the time I arrived until the time I left. I was very fortunate in that I had no post op complications of any sort, but I was extremely careful to take it easy the first couple of weeks.

Some gals stay a bit longer than I did, particularly if there are bladder problems or additional drain tubes. My catheter was removed about 24 hours after surgery and I had no problems with my bladder.
