LAVH 5 days post hysterectomy, strange/painful lump near inner arm/elbow

Hi, I'm 5 days post op LAVH and I just noticed a dime sized, moderately painful lump on my inner arm, elbow area... nowhere near an IV site. Not discolored, only painful. Any ideas?

I wonder if they made an unsuccessful try for a 2nd IV in the OR? Otherwise I can't imagine. Might want to ask your Dr. Did you have a blood draw there, perhaps?

The location makes it near impossible to be a good location for a blood draw or IV site. I can not imagine. I considered a blood clot but there is no redness or discoloration. I called my doctor, hopefully I'll get an answer sooner than later. In the meantime, I'll nap some more.

I actually had my ID placed on the inside of my elbow. It was very annoying because I had to hold my arm straight, elbow down all the time, and if I moved it without thinking - which happened a lot - an alarm would go off and a nurse would have to come and reset the machine. Maybe they found the veins in my hand to be too small.

That's exactly where the nurses always draw blood from on me. I've also sometimes had IVs placed there instead of on my hand or lower arm. I think it depends on what position you're going be in during the procedure.

So two gueses:

1) Someone took your blood while you were out; or

2) A nurse got confused as to which procedure she was setting up for and initially placed your IV there by mistake.
