Re: Belly still numb?

My hyst was in June and my belly still has numb places, and sore places and places that sting when I am on my feet too long without resting.

Re: Belly still numb?

I had a vertical incision, and don't remember much numbness with that one. About 8 months later I had an incisional hernia repaired, using the same incision line. That was about 6 months ago, and it's still numb, but only along the incision itself.

Re: Belly still numb?

I had stomach surgery back in 93. It was a vertical incision, and after all this time, it's still numb. Sometimes scars are like that.

Re: Belly still numb?

Sorry to have to say this but have talked to a couple of gals and they say YEARS! Years of numbness! At least we know we arent weird :-) It always makes me feel better when i say to someone "i feel weird" and they say "I had the same thing happen" makes me feel not so weird :-)

Hawkipa

You're certainly not the only one! It can take up to a year for the nerve endings to regenerate, if at all. If you try a forum search, you'll discover many threads on the subject. Have you found our <link> Post-Op Page yet? It's packed with information, including an article on this very subject.

I'm over 5 years post-op and still numb, but don't even notice it anymore.

Sending all good wishes and positive thoughts!

Re: Belly still numb?

My surgery was April 9th and my stomach on the right side of my incision is still numb. I was told it may never go away.

Re: Belly still numb?

I called dr for same question and they said 4-6 months possibly longer for the nerves to "regrow" after surgery, nothing to worry about. I'm numb only directly above my incision; 3 weeks post op
I have to give injections to this site for my Multiple Sclerosis, so it was scary not feeling the area, so i will take the advise and have hope all will return in time. I did read the booklet this website suggested and i found the exercises mentioned help.
