irritable bowels

I had my LAVH/BSO with appendectomy exactly one week ago today and I have to say I've had a pretty smooth recovery so far. The only issue I'm having has to do with my bowels. I fully expected gas pains the first couple of days so I dutifully took my Gas X. I had my first BM on the 3 day post-op. I had been eating a pretty regular diet since 1 day post-op but it seems that for the last 3 days if I eat anything that's not bland, I get horrible gas pains and then very loose bm's (sorry...TMI...I know!). Its so frustrating. I've put myself back on malt-o-meal and poached eggs with unbuttered toast.

I do have a history of IBS but its really been years since I've had any symptoms.
I'm just curious if anyone else has had this problem. I know its still really early in the recovery process but I thought if anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them! I'm still taking Gas X 4 times/day.
Thanks!!

Karen

Re: irritable bowels

I have Crohn's and IBS and this surgery really knocked my system for a loop. I ended up back on the BRAT diet for a while because my stomach reacted so poorly to anything other than bland foods. My doc had suggested smaller more frequent meals and that did help also. What it really came down to was giving my body time so that it could recuperate. Wish I had an answer.

Re: irritable bowels

Bummer...that's kind of what I was afraid of. That's why I decided to put myself back on my bland diet. But boy am I craving Mexican food!!
I'm sorry you went through this too!
Thanks for your help....I appreciate it!
