LAVH . . . well it was supposed to be

Hi, had my LAVH yesterday. woke up to find out that my gynae had done an abdominal instead. apparently my uterus, tubes, ovaries, bowel & bladder were all fused together by undiagnosed endometriosis. the gynae felt that it would be to risky to tackle the situation by laproscope. fortunately he decided to go in via my c-section scar so i dont have a fresh cut nor do i have much pain from the incision. today my bowel & bladder have both woken up . . . ouch . . . i'm really annoyed that my cries of excruciating pain while menstruating for years were fobbed off as being normal . . . and even after being in hospital due to heavy hleeding no one thought it would be a good idea to check out my symptoms in more detail - it seemed that once they spotted the fibroid they discounted anything else:

Hello michross

We are so happy that you found us!

I am sure it had to be a shocking discovery at finding that the surgery you prepared for turned out to be something different. I hear you on trying to voice what you are experiencing at any given time yet not receive a bit more understanding. During my own journey, there were months I was having pain and cramping not even associated with my monthly cycles. My surgery could have strayed from LAVH and turn abdominal due to the size of my uterus, but they were able to complete the procedure.

Be patient with yourself as you are going to adapt different ways of getting up or moving around for a time. Initially it is a 4 to 8 weeks healing time for this first phase, then 6 months or more for trying to get back to your new normal.

Re: LAVH . . . well it was supposed to be

I too went in expecting a TVH but ended up with a TAH. My cervix got the last laugh and wouldn't budge for anything. He did forewarn me that if for some reason, he might have to do it that way. Obviously our healing is completely different. At about 3 weeks I felt decent, then the next few weeks a bit more tender. By 9 weeks I felt super, super enough to rechalk the tub and scrub the tubs and floors. I was flat on my back for a week. My doctor told me true recovery is 6 months. Needless to say, at 11 weeks now, I will not be pushing my luck again. I'm sorry things weren't taken care of before but am glad you're on the other side
