Increased Appetite???

The first week after surgery I could barely eat anything. It seemed that with all the gas/bloating/constipation I didn't have room for much.

Now I'm 13 days Post OP and have noticed in the last several days that my appetite is raging! I seem to be hungry ALL the time.

Naturally I'm concerned about whether or not this is simply my body craving energy for the healing process, or if it's a metabolic change that will stick around and cause weight gain problems.

Anyone else experiencing an increased appetite? Am I the only hungry insomniac?

Re: Increased Appetite???

I had a bit of a bout with insomnia in the couple of weeks after surgery, but not the hungries. I still haven't gotten my appetite back.

Re: Increased Appetite???

I am on day 12. I had no sense of hunger the first week. It's now returning, but I am still unable to eat a lot at once and not wanting it constantly! I am sure your response is normal, we all heal so differently!

Re: Increased Appetite???

My appetite was pretty much the same. I was hungry when I woke up after the operation. I still eat about half of what I use to just because my stomach feels like it will fall out if I eat to much. So now I just snack a little more than I use too.

Re: Increased Appetite???

I had the hyst ten days ago and my appetite is lower than what it was before surgery. This is probably because my G-I track is not fully cooperative and I a drinking a lot of water to encourage it. This was the first Christmas that I remember ever skipping dessert. I am sure that the appetite will come roaring back!

Re: Increased Appetite???

sigh...

I was really hoping the decreased appetite and smaller portions would stick around.

If I could exercise like I did before surgery I wouldn't be so concerned with the appetite returning. I'm stressing about the rumored weight gain after hysterectomy!

Re: Increased Appetite???

I am 3 months out tomorrow. I lost about 17 pounds in the first period after surgery when the appetite was gone and I was healing. I did get my appetite back, and I did gain back about 5 pounds, but seem to have stabilized since then. Eat healthy foods, and remember you need protein to heal. Things will even out with time.
